Been looking at upgrading my Abit fatality AN8SLI, been looking at the Gigabyte GA P35C DS3R. Will be changing from an Amd Athlon dual core cpu aswell.

Is the gigabyte a highly regarded board, will it work well with my cpu of choice Intel Core 2 Duo E6550. Gone for the E6550 as guessing a few mins of overclocking will bring it on par with the more expensive Core 2's?

If the Gigabyte isn't well thought of what would you recommend for say around the £70-100 mark.

Thanks for your time!

Hi and welcome :)

Yeah the Gigabytes are considered to be very good, especially in the price range of the P35C DS3R.

It should have no issues with an E6550 either.

Blimey, that was quick!

Thanks for the welcome. Would you know what the overclock abillity is like with this mobo and cpu?

With adequate cooling and fast memory you should be looking at atleast 3.2-3.3ghz, possibly higher.

Haven't really looked into memoery before use to just settle for the kngston tbh.

heard a few places recommend Geil, would Geil 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 800Mhz Ultra Dual Channel Kit be adequate. Sorry for all the questions.

Questions are the reason the forums are here :)

With the Geil you will probably max out at ~3.2ghz (~460x7).

If you want more then the PC5300 Crucial Ballistix should stay with the E6550 to over 3.5ghz, providing your CPU can go that far in your set-up.

Am currenty running a Hiper Type R 580 watt PSU doubt i would be going to close to 3.2ghz tbh due to not having the knowledge of you guys!

Thanks so much for the help

abit's IP35 series are also well regarded & as you are already used to abit BIOS style ...
