Firstly I would like to say thanks for any advice offered as I really need it.

Im looking into upgrading my Mobo, Ram and CPU to replace my current Q6600, 4gb Geil and Asus board.

The new kit will be mated to my current 5970 and X25 80gb SSD plus a plether of other hdd's in an Antec 1200 case.

I am after mobo advice. I really like the look of the Asus Rampage 3 Extreme but is it just a waste of money. OCUK Staff recommended me a UD3R but again online reviews show signs of buzzing coming from some of the resistors.

Basically, I am after some recommendations?

Looking for ideally, XFire compatable, 6gb (is this worth it) and a plethorer of Sata connectors (I have a lot of storage) along with good OC ability (although this is only done on air).

Budget isnt really a problem, but I dont want to waste money on things that are not required.

Thanks,

Chef

+1 for stulid's recommendation, its an excellent board at a great price. Couple it with an i7 920 and you are onto a winner.

However, out of interest- is your Q6600 system failing to cope with what you are throwing at it? Is the Q6600 overclocked?

In most games, almost certainly not. Considering the Phenom II X4 is clock-for-clock about as fast as the Q6600, this is good reading.

Obviously, there a small number of games that are much more CPU heavy (like BF:BC2, GTA4 and ARMA2) and these games can make use of an overclocked i7 (even with a 3GHz Q6600 the performance is hardly poor). However, these games are very few and far between - the vast majority of games are still GPU limited even with a 5970.

I would go with stulids choice as this is an exellent board and good for overclocking but i would go for the 17 930 as it is a better overclocker and much cooler to run and very stable at 4ghz on air cooling as you already have a good air cooled case in the antec 1200 just make sure you get a good cpu cooler aswell corsair h-50 watercoler or prolimatech megahalems rev b these should fit ok in your case.

I assume you mean compared to the i7 920? If so, why do you say that?

Everything I have seen so far shows that both the 920 and 930 are very happy to hit 4GHz with good air cooling and at the same clockspeed both chips run at the same temperature (not surprising as they are identical apart from the maximum multiplier. The main difference between the two is the price.
