Hi there,

I've just installed a new mobo with my old HDD that has vista installed. I understand that this may cause problems. IS there ANY way at all around this safely so that I can use my vista HDD with my new setup?!

Thanks in adv and I know you're all going to tell me to get a fresh windows cd because vista is **** Would really appreciate if anyone knows of a way around this. I can get in to command prompt etc and have my mobo drivers on the CD that came with it..

never tried it with vista win7/8 is usually fine

if you did have a vista cd you could try a startup repair with it if it didn't work

If you had a spare hdd you could do a clean install on it and copy over all your data/movies programs ect, can't think any other way round it

I see what you mean. Thanks for the suggestions. Perhaps its a problem with 'booting from a CD' for some reason every CD that I try and boot from slows down the boot process and doesnt seem to be recognised at all. The DVD drive is properly connected via SATA/IDE. ut

Initially I put this down to me connecting an old hdd with an os installed in to a new mobo etc, however could be some other reason that its not working
