right got the ds3 revison 2 with the f10 bios and am not happy with it came home today and it had lost my overclock totaly ie not boot up so i had to clear bios to get any life out the system

so am in the mood for a new mobo was thinking about an evga 680i (never been keen on gigabyte since the last 1 had died and took my hdd with it)

are the evga / bfg 680i boreds any good my last bored was a an8 32 sli delux and i loved that bored never had a prob with it

so what does every1 say is the best bored

Board, not bored! :p

To answer your question, I guess it depends what features you think are important.

I've no experience of the DS3 directly, but it sounds like your problem is just a faulty board, rather than a reason to dislike all DS3's. But then again maybe it is a common problem with the DS3's, although I've not seen anything here about it if it is.

If money isn't an issue then the 680i's seem to be quite popular round here, but there are certainly cheaper alternatives if you can do without some features.

money no object m8
well since day 1 ive been having probs
today just toot the ****
switch syetem on orange light on screen no boot up it was only switched off for 16 hrs and it loses all settings + my sli ram wont go above 866 mhz and the mem says it will run at 1066 its ddr 8500 ram ive got

think i'll get the evga . my last board was asus and not 1 prob with it really stable
thanks for the imput guys

ie sorry about the spelling :D

I've been asus since the beginning.
Including all gpu ever bought.
Not sure about now but probably will take the gamble and get

tagan 700w u35 psu
ocz pc8000 1100 mhz ram

Isnt there a setting in the bios that sets it back to default if you dont disable it or something along those lines?

yes there is it worked once and its never worked again and that was the first day of the build lol

I got the EVGA 680i last week and it's been brilliant so far. Allowed me to reach 3.6 on air with my e6600 no problem. It was the most trouble free install yet, and it flies in Vista! The difference between the BFG and EVGA will only be accessories and possibly warranty. The actual boards are all the same.

If getting the 680i make sure your get the REV2 thats not crippled for quad core clocking.

This makes sure you have everything in place when cheap quad hits :)

Sound advice ;)

mate i think you may have rushed things slightly. You posted not so long ago about being a overclocking novice. Are you sure your DS3 was at fault and not inexperience being the cause of your troubles.

well cob give me some info . to get my cpu fsb speed up it worked then he said try the x2.50 mem mutiplyer to get the ram running at the right speed soon as i do that. the system restarts and doesn't even post i have to go in and clear the bios by using a jumper to short it

I can't believe you want to spend money on a new board just because it lost BIOS settings once. What other problems have you had, or do you just want to blow some cash :)

my DS3 99% of the time just reboots and resets the overclock settings if i have gone too far. the only time i have ever had to completly reset was when i gave the GMCH 0.2v and the ram 2.2 and it didnt like it. the only way to get it back that time was a bios reset.

excellent motherboard tbh.

its only reset itself once and that was when i first tryed to o/c and its never done it again. and yes my ram is running 1:1 with the fsb
i tryed to o/c the ram to 900mhz with the stock FSB and just reset itself wouldn't post
and yes ive got money to spend :D

its lost settings everytime ive made a change as for today i switched it off went out for a while came back no settings
so theres somthing not right
maybe an issue with the 8500 SLI ram maybe i dunno never been a fan of gigabyte

Depends on the RAM.

Can you get the RAM to run at 1066mhz with the fsb at 266mhz (would be the x4 memory multiplier)?

Whoa time out

I must say you are getting way ahead of yourself here.

Okay you have a problem with the ds3 right?. Can i ask how you would rate yourself with regards to overclocking?.
I am not being cheeky but perhaps as ppl have already here mentioned that there could be a reason why the ds3 is failing after overclocking and losing settings over a period of time. Perhaps your pushing it too far or even a faulty battery could cause your system lose previous settings.

As for going on about how good the Asus board you had previous. Why arent you going with an Asus then?.

The eVGA board is something i am looking at but wont until rev2 is in stock. As far as i know and read evga are the only company addressing the issue which means as all nvidia 680i boards are the same you can bet the bfg will be in the same boat.

If indeed your board is faulty which it maybe then why dont you return it?.
i sure you know you have the perfect right to do so although ive heard bad things with regards OC and their returns.

Anyway hope you get it sorted one way or another and ive been on your server. Nice.

Chris
