Hello, first post here hehe,

I've bought a new motherboard (Asus K8N4-E Deluxe) with pci-e so I can use my m8's old gfx card I've bought from him, and that boards got nicer OCing features than what I got atm.

Now my question, I'm wondering if when I put my new motherboard in will I need to reinstall windows and linux? or will it still work, in the past I've had to reinstall windows (only got linux recently), does anyone know of a way to switch over motherboards without reinstalling windows? (its such a pain)
Like uninstalling the chip set drivers before switching them over or something?
The board I currently have is an Asus as well but a different chipset.

Thanx for any help,
Mac

Welcome! :)

It's safer and better practice to do a reinstall. Uninstalling chipset drivers can get you in a right pickle, especially as you're changing chipsets.

Cheers for the reply,
I'l reinstall it :-)
Another question (in the rong place but hey) will a 300watt psu run a Pci-e gfx card? (its a Ati 850xt 250mb)

Ok cheers, I'l see how it goes :-) got to wait for my mates new gfx card to come b4 I can try it out
Cheers for the help guys :-D

The answer here is no - dont take a chance.

If it was an Antec or similar PSU that delivered what it promised, then it may be ok.

Since you dont mention a brand, i'll assume its a generic - dont chance frying your new goodies.. get a new one.

Didnt no it could cause damage :o
Its make is Zalman make, isnt that old only a few months
If its underpowered how does it cause damage?

I would get a bigger PSU mate. Best to be safe than sorry. The other one could blow and take a few components with it!!

Anyone recommend one? nothing too pricy tho please? I'm a poor student lol
Other info about my system:
Have an A64 3000+ 754 pin (running at 2.4ghz)
1gig of Value Select ram
4 Hard drives and 2 Dvd Drives
And will be getting the kit mentioned in here

Thanx for all the help again guys

The enermax one is a little pricey although I do like the idea of modular cables, I do have a spare 400watt PSU lying rnd if thats any good? its a bit naff only has 2 power rails on it :p
Something a little cheaper than the enermax would be good if there is anything?

Sorry to say it mate but buy cheap buy twice.

A decent psu is a good investment because it is a lot better than getting some generic one and it taking half computer with it my 2 pence worth anyhow.

Slightly cheaper option would be the Antec NeoHE 430W Modular ATX2.0 PSU though which is basically the neo power series rebadged this should easily do the job for your current setup.

What about a Hiper HPU-4K580-MK Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU for £64 inc VAT or a Tagan TG480-U01 480W ATX2.0 SLi Compliant Silent PSU (CA-000-TG) for £58 inc VAT? I have had the Tagan for only a few days and is much quieter and more reliable than my old Magna one.

Think I'm gona go the Enermax 500watt, it does look nice and has plenty of cables to use

Thanx guys :D
