Currently gaming on a 1440p 165hz IPS 27" with a new 4090

So do I get a 4K 120hz ish monitor or 1440p 240hz monitor ? I'm not sure I want anything bigger than 27/32" and thinking the 4K is going to be wasted on 27". I'm also not really into a curve screen

I thinking a OLED would be a bigger difference over a IPS and better upgrade than a 2K to 4K screen

So thinking about the new LG OLED 27" 1440P, is that a waste of a 4090 ?

Can anyone recommend a better option please

1440p is ideal for the high frame rates with the 4090,

depends what you're after, superior picture quality or competitive response times,

otherwise get the Asus PG27AQN the alternative to getting the LG OLED

For all the "can't go back to 60hz" comments I see, I still see so many people talking about 27" monitors. They are tiny. 27" now I'm used to 42" is like going to 30hz...unbearable. Get immersed with above big screen. I had a 32" screen ten years plus ago. Had to use a 27" recently while another screen got replaced. Like going to an iPhone 5 from a 13

48 inch CX OLED is the best screen I’ve ever used (and i’ve used a lot) and the 4090 can manage 120fps at 4k. Anything else seems like a waste, especially small 4k monitors.

Ahem, if you have the room of course!

I don't really need 360hz, I was think 240hz if running 1440p hence the OLED option
Yeah I'm in the same position, but 4K at 120hz isn't good enough for me either, regardless of screen size the other two have mentioned. I'd rather have the quality of Oled at 2K and gain double the frame rate especially if you play any form of game that benefits from the higher frame rates you'll gain at 1440p with a 4090.

But everyone's preferences are different. I think I'm going to end up getting the new Asus 27" OLED considering it has a built in heat sink as well, problem is no set release date for it yet.

I feel like 42" would be overkill if I'm sat so close to the screen, maybe I'm wrong? I'd prefer an ultra wide if some competitive games weren't so restrictive with their resolutions in the aim of fairness.

Sounds good. Got any details on it please

I sit close to a 42". Flight Sims, racers, mil Sims..all incredible. Once you get used to it it's unbeatable. I really don't see how I would do better at competitive shooters on a 27".

Well one of the reasons isn't the screen size it's the supported frame rates of the lower res monitors :) with only the Asus at 1440p and Zowie at 1080p supporting 360hz as an example, until whatever nuts 500hz monitor drops later :)

And I think it's more to do with the lack of head tilt of a smaller screen size for the average person :) so easier to focus on everything faster, still though mainly the fps gains of lower resolution to actually support the higher refresh monitor.

For your use case I think it makes a lot of sense, hell even ultra wides look ******* amazing for almost any game outside of a competitive fps.

It'll also offer higher peak brightness at HDR and SDR than the LG :)

Main issues is lack of HDMI 2.1 and apparently lack of VRR Support for console

So I used my TV downstairs which is a 55" LG C2. Played Fortnite 4K max settings and got 110FPS with the RTX 4090

Played WZ2 and MW2 same thing

My take away is yeah it's pretty cool but did it really look better than the 1440P on a 27". NO !!!!!

The OLED yeah for sure but the screen res 4K 55" vs 2K 27" no the pixel des looked on par which surprised me to be honest

So would 1440P @240fps on a 27" OLED work, yeah I'm feeling it

i use a 43" 4K monitor, im running my games at 120Hz 4K on a 3070ti and it looks glorious! I sit quite close and have a 4K 28" monitor as a second, but I love the big screen size, wouldnt go smaller now im used to this now, no way!

Well yeah the 27" has a better PPI but play for any amount of time on the 55" and the 27" will seem tiny.

Preferences and all that :) I'll go with a larger 4K Oled Panel when more of the games I want to play can drive the games at the higher frame rates I'm after. I'm going to struggle to drive a few games at 240fps at 1440p... with all the bells and whistles at least.

If op is happy with 120hz though then I'd probably agree getting something larger than 27" is probably a good idea and at 4K at that...

As I'll be sitting so close to the monitor 27" is fine for my usage.

I went for a 32” 4k 165Hz Gsync with a 4090 and it’s great.

Average between 150-180 fps or upwards of 200 using DLSS and every setting maxed out.

Picture quality is flawless, fast response time and buttery smooth.

The high pixel density of 4k on a 27" monitor is a positive. It's a qualitative improvement. But it all depends on the game: for driving games I preferred my 34" 3440x1440 UW monitor until I broke it.

if you are fine with 120hz then I think you cannot go wrong with 42C2 4k OLED. I think they go for 700-900 nowadays

QD OLED exists too if you want ultra wides and can go faster than 120hz but they are more expensive.
