New Monitor is freesync but adrenalin says no

I always found games with bright images against black gave quite bad smearing on my old Samsung VA ultrawide monitor. Just a limitation of VA panels I think.

Elite dangerous was a particularly bad game for it. I just got used to it and accepted it in the end.

There is no perfect panel tech, all have their limitations. My current oled ultrawide is as close to perfection as I've seen image wise, but then there's burn in to worry about instead.

I've tried my old monitor and I get some tearing due to the refresh rate being 75hz BUT I don't get any of the smearing at all, no ghost versions of objects chasing themselves around the screen. It's a 5ms response time IPS panel and so I get other issues but I'm starting to think the new panel must have a fault somehow.

I'm raising a ticket with overclockers. :(

I mean it makes feel slightly nauseated and disorientated, it's very bad. Like an object becomes a windmill if you turn your mouse in a circle... :(

And you really can't see it in the screen caps, though they look awful anyway

It isn't just against black background, it does it against the bright blue sky or against the brown wood below deck in sea of thieves. Skyrim also shows it up, though where I was testing was quite dark in side. I just can't believe the monitor is fit for purpose with what I'm seeing

I only see it if really look for it, and I have to do something specific- ie playing half life the black power lines, strafing slowly I can see a trial

But zipping around at 100mph in Doom Etnernal, spinning around? Nope.

I wish I had doom eternal for a check but I see it all the time, unless I'm looking dead ahead, it IS mostly only when I'm turning the camera/person. If I'm in a view that's turning fast it also happens, so as things zoom by but it is much more when I'm moving the mouse/view. It's horrible

Because I'm limited to what I have in my libraries? _shrug emoji_

I'm not so big on FPS shooters. Knew I should have bought cyberpunk 2077 at the winter sale. my friend has that too so I could borrow that one?

Cyberpunk runs pretty decent so yeah try that. Or take your computer/monitor to another persons house with a faster machine/another display.

Metro 2033 runs about 30fps on mine.

I don't have anywhere I can take it. Damn he doesn't have cyberpunk. mmm so Forza 4 or 5?

I went with 4 because I'd have to uninstall so many games to fit horza 5 on

Would you both take a look at this youtube recorded on my phone, from about 35 seconds onwards. You can see what I mean when I look to the left and right,

Hmm, the FPS counter certainly doesn't match the experience. Have you tried using a controller out of interest? I have nasty stuttering that almost looks like vertical tearing in some games since moving from a Radeon 6800 XT to a GeForce RTX 5080.

It seems at least in some games it's caused by the mous, as when I use a controller it's nice and smooth (Helldivers 2 and God of War Ragnarok specifically). Might be worth trying a controller to see if it's similar?

One last try with a video with me pointing out what I mean. This is a direct link to a file on my cloud backup, so hopefully no youtube compression involved.!

I have a controller I can try that! I am suspicious of the gaming mouse...
