Currently deciding what my next upgrade should be, i am on a 520w corsair psu and i game at 1440x900 currently. Specs in Sig, im thinking about maybe getting a 1680x1050 monitor or possibly even higher, but that means i will have to get a more powerful gpu like the 8800gts 512mb. What would you do?

Im pretty sure my current GTS640 would cut it fine at 16x10, but not at 19x12.

thanks,

will new cards like the 8800gts 512mb work in my p35 ds3p board and have the same performance as in a pcie2 board? (x38 etc)

So would i be better off getting a cheap 1680x1050 one or getting the 1900x1200 one for just over £200? Would my card struggle at that res? Im not too bothered about AA as i no a lot of it goes at high res.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to this for sure but I should think it'd perform just the same.

It's down to personal preference I guess. Personally monitors are one thing I don't like to go cheap on, done that before and ended up sending it back the same day because it was terrible.

If you don't mind going cheap on the monitor then the 1920x1200 one would be miles better, you might find it better to keep your GTS 640MB though as the extra memory will probably come in very handy. Especially in games like Crysis.

Well my current monitor is a 19 inch no name one, but the Acer one looks ok even though its cheap.

One more question, could my 520w corsair handle a new monitor then in the future something like a 8800gts 512mb?

Acer are a good brand actually, if they are doing a cheap monitor it's one to look out for.

Your monitor is powered from the mains so don't worry about that, and a Corsair 520W PSU is more than enough for any 8800 even in SLI. I am running the exact same PSU myself. :)

Ok cheers :p

Apprently the Acer has bad image quality though, so im not sure whether its worth going for a 24inch as it will be a lot more expensive. (im 16 so money is hard to come by :p)

I Guess ill See how much i have after xmas.

I have a 640gts and game @ 1920*1200 for most things its fine, but some of the later games you have to turn down the graphics settings to medium for example to get it to run smoothly

im going to need to upgrade soon, wish id got a gtx when they where going cheap now
