I'm currently running off two monitors. A HP L2045w monitor & a Dell 17" monitor. I play games, internet and watch the very occasional DVD (when the Mrs is watching TV).

Rig is a Q9550 with an ati 5870 card.

Recommendations please up to £250 / 300. Alternatively a lower priced model with the intentions of going for a crossfire 5870

Not interested in any of this 3D stuff

I assume HDMI will be better quality than DVI?

HDMI and DVI should have no quality difference

anyway, I would suggest a Dell U2311H, the HannsG 27.5" screen or an Iiyama 27" screen

Interesting. Certainly hadn't looked at the HannsG.

Questions is 23" Vs 27"

Always been a fan of Iiyama

I'm using a 4 year old S-IPS NEC coupled with a brand new Samsung BX2450.
The Samsung hasn't got anything going for it at all in comparison other than HDMI and 16:9 to use the PS3 on.

Side by side, the TN panel in the Samsung is miles behind the NEC.

Thoroughly recommend the Dell U2311H. Going from a 22" TN panel, the better colours and contrast was immediately apparent and even more so when compared side to side. Everything just looks much more clean and solid; my old TN looks almost diluted in comparision.

I'm currently using a Dell G2410 24" which is a TN but before that I had a 23" Apple Cinema Display and definately miss the quality.

+1 for the U2311H. In the £250-300 range you will be hard pressed to find anything better quality. Here is a very good review.

If you are REALLY into fast paced FPS games then you may want to consider a 120Hz monitor (like this or this) - as they are reportedly VERY smooth. However, the trade off is that these use TN panels, so the image quality and viewing angles will not be as good as the E-IPS U2311H.

Finally, if you feel you can push your budget a bit - this is an excellent bit of kit. Not only is it 24in - but it is also 16:10 aspect ratio, so the viewing area is a good deal bigger than 16:9 24 inchers. It also has a sweet resolution of 1920x1200 and uses an E-IPS panel. Here is another very good review.

Very nice and I prefer HP kit to Dell kit..

Maybe could stretch to that, but I'll do some review reading first.
