Hello everyone,

I'm currently running Nvidia GPU's and I'm in the market for a new monitor. Ideally I'm wanting an ultra wide.

However, Gsync adds an extra £200+ onto the price of monitors. If I was to purchase a freesync monitor @ 144hz;

Would the gaming experience be noticeably improved to that of my 27" 60hz monitors I currently have?

I know 1080p is a low res for a 34" :( I'd ideally want all the bells and whistles of Gsync, 144hz+ and 1440p but I haven't seen any appealing monitors at a decent price point.

EDIT: Can I even make use of the 144hz with a Nvidia card?

The panel is native 144Hz so you'll get the full benefit with a Nvidia card - only thing you won't be able to take advantage of is the freesync.

I'd wait for the new LG Monitors in march if i was you, that's what I'm doing.... I was just about to buy a X34 as well aha.

The monitor you mention is definitely a gaming monitor, in that it prioritises the right things. Size for immersion. Refresh rate is really important in games and yes you will notice the difference. Resolution is really not so important in games. Like everything, it helps, but it's far less important then refresh rate. But also I think you have to ask what type of games are you playing. An online mmo fantasy player will benefit less from a high refresh rate than an fps player.

Take it from someone who did the exact same thing as you before Christmas (I actually had to check it wasn't my own post!) don't do it!
I was really set for a new monitor and also decided that g-sync wasn't worth the premium so went for a freesync 165hz display. Yes the high refresh works as you'd expect but once you fire up a game that dips below 60fps you WILL miss g-sync believe me. I was playing a lot of racing games (F1 2017, dirt rally etc) and they were hitting easily 100+FPS on my system so I thought who needs g-sync but I went back to a couple of other titles I own (GTA V and FarCry 4) and they're 50-60fps at full settings on 1440p and my goodness you notice the lack of g-sync straight away.

Thank you. I think I will take your advice and will increase my budget for a monitor, it’ll last me much longer than any GPU so may as well go full out. Out of curiosity, did you keep the monitor?

I didn't. I realised after a few days it just wasn't going to do for me so sent it back to the rainforest. I stuck with my Acer XB270HU which is a great monitor and I wondered why I even thought of changing in the first place.

All of the extra goodies you can add to a monitor make a difference, but you won't really miss what you never had. Also so things seem to bother some people that don't bother others. There is no doubt that you will benefit from the 144Hz refresh-rate. Personally I think refresh-rate is THE most important thing for gamers. Screen artifacts in gaming never bothered me so much as it seems to bother other people so G-sync, well, ok, if you are a really dedicated gamer, sure, but it's more expensive and if you go down that route you will end up spending £1200 on a monitor. Just how dedicated are you? The price will come down and should be really low by the time you get your next monitor! I would get a 144Hz now. That would keep you happy for a while.

You make a valid point. I didn't realised how much g-sync would help until I actually got it and now I couldn't go back and to be fair yes I survived perfectly fine before I did have it. Agree too that if you had to select just one feature then high refresh is definitely better than g-sync - PROVIDED you have the GPU grunt to run those high refresh rates let's not forget.

Sheer size isn't everything either, I have used a couple of 32 inch 1440p monitors over the last few years and have to say that I'd take my 27 inch 1440p over any of them. I've also had a 34 ultra wide that was only 2560x1080 and I didn't care for the pixel density (or lack of) at all.
Personally, I would sooner go for a 24 inch 1080p monitor (with g-sync if the budget allows) than for a larger monitor just for the sake of it being bigger unless you can stretch to 1440p or 4k.

As Pocah says you could get a regular 144hz now and that would do for a while however if you have the self restraint I would say save up and buy a good spec monitor that you're very happy with and you'll keep it for far longer.
