Hi All..

not 4 wheels, but 2.

I've just bought a 1995 (imported in 1997) Suzuki GSX-R 400, fairings are immaculate and original, which is rare for this age of supersports bike, and it runs perfectly, not much of a service history but that's expected of an import.

I paid £1350 for it (which appears to be around £500-£1000) less than some others that have sold recently on autotrader, pistonheads and on some gixxer classifieds, which leaves me with a bit of extra cash to give it a nice clean service to counter the lack of service history.

Unfortunately, i can't ride it yet! :( - i'm currently doing my Direct Access, have my thoery test on the 18th and practical shortly after that, so i've got a couple of weeks to get the bike ready for me..

Glad to be joining the bikers on the forums :)

(Will put pictures up later, it went dark before i got chance last night)

Worst time of year for it! Roads don't get much more slippy than they are at the moment, but good choice on getting onto two wheels!

Beware though, getting parts for the 400 is fairly difficult these days as there isn't that many about! Good luck with the direct access :D

i wanted a kawasaki ZXR400, but they were a little over my budget and the closest decent ones were in glasgow or dorset - and i didnt really want to wait

Took me longer than i said it would to get a photo but that's because the bike is at my mums.. here she is..

Oh, and any pinkness you see in the red is purely because i took the picture on a shoddy camera with shoddy lighting and did no postprocessing, it is actually very red.

Spent all evening yesterday with the bike.

Fixed some dodgy connections in the loom, Changed the spark plugs and reseated all the HT leads, set the idle air / fuel mix and fired her up.

Bike now starts on the first crank every time!

cost so far:

£1390 for bike
£34 for spark plugs

Next is an oil change and then i'm done!, well under budget.

Nice looking bike, are you a wee guy? I could never ride anything that small, saying that bikes have got a lot smaller so that's probably no smaller than my 06 zx6r, I know my 98 zx6r was huge in comparison.

I'm far from 'wee', i'm about 6ft 3 and i weigh 17 stone, every says the bike looks a bit small for me, but pretty much every supersports is going to :P

I think i might get some adjustable rearsets so i can make it more comfortable to ride but other than that it isnt too bad.

took my theory test today and passed with 3/50 questions wrong and a high score on the hazard perception. unfortunately they don't tell you which questions you got wrong, i'd like to know!

Nice bike, 400's are a good place to start with imo,

Recently upgraded my VFR400 to a Triumph Daytona 675, and comparing the two the VFR doesn't come out too badly, obviously the daytona is better on brakes and acceleration (far far quicker :D :p) but overall riding the VFR is really nice, less likely to cause problems (never had it spin up the rear wheel, wet or dry, so was more forgiving to ride, daytona will spin up easily in the wet and lift the front in the dry, fun yes but you definately need to be concentrating...) and handling wise it compares favourably really.

So enjoy (once you've passed your test :p) and try not to let any of those pesky car drivers try to kill you :p
