New mouse needed

After working faithfully for 4+ years, my logitech MX510 has failed due to a fault in the usb cable and my ill-fated attempts to save it, which destroyed it beyond repair. If it were not for the fault in the wire and my own meddling it could have continued to worked for another couple of years. So, unfortunately I'm in the market for a new mouse. So what's the best type of wired mouse I can get these days. Budget is around ~£20 to ~£50.

My requirements aren't much:

*As comfortable as the MX510
*Decent DPI
*Two left-hand side buttons (can't imagine only having a three button mouse any more)
*Not too windows driver and software dependent (Linux friendly)

mx518.

id say G9, i can use either quite happily and it is the better mouse, but its twice the price and the 518 is just...well you know how comfy your mx510 was. ive not found anything better yet.

i'd say MX-518 too

mine's lasted for 5 years. not to mention, they're pretty cheap these days.

i know, ive had mine for a fair while as well. cant fault it at all, and logitechs service is first class.

Any thoughts about the G5 over the MX518? Also, do you guys know if the DPI changing buttons are hardware (mouse) side or software side adjustments?

edit: Apparently the DPI adjustments are hardware side.

they're hardware side, but if you install setpoint you can, should you want to, change them to any other assignment.

i'd go for the MX-518 over the G5 because it's optical rather than laser (tracks properly at much higher speeds) and it has one more button, which i use VERY frequently, as i reassigned it to F5 for the forums

MX518 > G5.

Why? Extra button, feels more accurate, feels perfectly weighted.

Had mine for 4 years or something, feel like buying a new one but can't find a reason to! lol.

Yes, if they suit your hand they are pretty much perfect, for gaming and anything else. No need at all to get anything more expensive.

It depends what sort fo grip you have. If, like me, you have a claw grip then you'll want a Razer Lachesis (4000dpi). However, if you have a more relaxed grip then I would have to agree with the above
