New mouse?

I've had MX 518 and G5 also. MX is old but still very good, although I like G5 refresh more because it is a in fact an evolved MX 518. G500 is expensive and I don't think it offers more than a G5. If you plan to keep it cheap go for the MX.

If you move your mouse very quickly when gaming bear in mind that any Avago 9500 mice (G500, CM Sentinel, that new-fangled Spanish Ozone SMOG thingummy etc.) have very low max perfect control speeds (MPCS) and malfunction speeds, i.e. it doesn't take much to cause the mouse to wobble perpendicular to your actual movement or stop tracking and even less to cause negative or positve acceleration.

I'd say go MX518 if you want a sure fire piece of kit, if you want to be different ocUK seem to be stocking the Diamondback 3G again, or even more different there's the Sharkoon Fireglider, Razer Boomslang CE2007 or the Abyssus (which razer just released a mirror finish version of) although I don't personally care for it too much without DPI adjustment on the fly (I didn't think it would be a big deal 'til I started using a high DPI mouse) or thumb buttons.

Bought the MX518 last week as my old Trust mouse died. Got it yesterday (6 days shipping taking the mickey a bit OcUK - expected last thursday and turned up yesterday...) and I must say it's quite different from what I was used to, but I'm getting used to it after only a couple of hours of use and it seems like a decent buy. It's got a little bit of weight on it and it is fairly large (got big hands myself) and very comfortable. Been working great with my SteelSeries QcK+ ;)

My only gripes with it so far is the graphics on it and the rubbery-plastic coating used for the grip - if it wasn't where the thumb sits it would have been a lot better in my eyes :)
