On a bit of a new music hunt (any genre) can anyone suggest decent new artists? Preferably people with only one album.

My suggestion is Rachel Chinouriri

Have you heard of Double Take?

Really good music, proper grassroots stuff. Up and coming in the music world, will break out any day now. These two are the next Taylor Swift, mark my words:

It’s always amusing seeing middle aged/old people proclaim that all modern music sucks at the exact same time they got old and jaded.

It’s nearly always boomers who listen exclusively to old rock music who say it as well, as if they with their limited taste in music are somehow the truthsayers of what good music is lol.

To be fair, people weren't widely listening to 20's music in the 70's, like you'll still hear 60's & 70's music now, so it has lasted the test of time.

Saying that, I'm always listening out for new music and genres, can't get enough!

Oh don't get me wrong. I like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson and lots of prog rock, it's the music my parents fed me growing up along with Jazz and Motown.

It's not a criticism of the music, it's a criticism of the long standing issue of people deciding all new music stopped being good as soon as they lost their youth and became middle-aged. It's the most textbook thing in the world.

Lots of great music still being made if you have varied taste in music and don't blanket judge modern music based on what's in the charts.

**** you!! i clicked on that and in my confusion listened to at least 20 seconds - 19 more than i bloody well should have been subjected too!!

Not limited to single albums, but not quite mainstream and I think they are great.

Magdalena Bay

Caroline Polachek

Dagny

Debut artists/album I've enjoyed this year:

Amanda Mur - Neu Om.
Heartworms - Glutton For Punishment.

Heartworms in particular. Siouxsie and the Banshees-inspired post-punk/gothic revival.

A couple from the last two years:

King Hannah - Big Swimmer.
Lorelle Meets the Obsolete - Datura.

Also:

Horsegirl - Phonetics On and On.

Horsegirl are a great indie rock band from Chicago. Their debut, Versions of Modern Performance, was one of my favourite albums of 2022. Their sophomore above, released this year, will be the same.
