Finally decided setup a basic home network using 2 computers to start with.

Using a linksys BEFSR41 router/switch

Got both computers to see each other in 'MY NETWORK PLACES'

But cannot for the life of me get passed the 'OTHER-COMP is not accessable, you may not have permission to access etc' when trying to access the other computer.

happening on both computers.

both computers can access the internet fine through the router and cable modem.

help please, driving me nuts! :(

did this in the very beginning, and couldn't even get each computer to see the other one to start with. Only got to where I am now by checking/adjusting/searching and trying various suggestions I've come across.

Networking without a domain controller always is a pain ;)

Are both computers in the same workgroup? Also what permissions have you set on the share?

I hate doing transfers between my computers through windows shares, I usually setup an ftp on one machine and transfer it that way, its usually a lot faster too than Windows explorer copy.

Think I've sorted it?

Both in the same workgroup...

Permission is set to "share this folder on the network"

Thought I'd set ZoneAlarm up properly, but guess I didn't... reset Zone alarm to allow ip and it seems to be working.

Not sure that's the correct way to do it though?
