I've just moved over from Canon to Nikon. I've started hanging out at the DPreview D200 forum- what a bunch of arrogant *****! The nicer people there seem to be drowned out by the losers more often than not.

Can anyone give me some links to friendlier forums for a D200 novice?

Cheers.

Can i be the first to ask, why would you swap from Canon to Nikon?

Ive only ever used Canon, but, both systems seems very similar, but from what ive read Canon have the edge ATM with regards to Noise and Accessories.

As for forums, well there is nothing up with these here fine OcUK forums...Other than that I find the guys over at TP forums to be a top bunch.

I know what you mean, I've gave up on dpreview the day someone posted asking how to turn off the shutter noise on their 30D...

If you're looking for decent forums then either here (although you need to avoid provoking the Canon guys too much!) or talkphotography.co.uk

Is there a reason that you need a Nikon forum specificaly? Unless you want advice on upgrading your kit, all the settings on the cameras are the same, so any photography forum could give you advice?

I just left a letter plus underscores in the sweary for effect. I thought only naughty people would know the word I had disguised anyway. :)

I wanted a 300d Upgrade, I felt the the 30D is dated and I couldn't stretch to a 5D.

I bought 3 lenses (18-200 VR, tokina 12-24 and a 35 F2) plus D200 and speedlight from Hong Kong via paypal for a good price so with the new 400D knocking the resale value of my 300D I thought it was time for an upgrade. Canon couldn't offer me what I wanted so I had to jump ship.

Low light wise the D200 is a challenge but otherwise it's a great machine and something I think I can grow into. If a Canon 40D was out I'd have got that.

There seems to be too much aggression in the DP Review forums now. I get that at work, I don't need it in my hobby. :(

Unless i'm being really stupid... The 30D is a newer camera than the 5D?

I thought it only came out a couple of months back, fairly sure it's newer than the D200 as well :p

No you didn't

Careful, because some partially-starred swearies will get you a 48hr suspension - all swearies must be fully starred out :)

Thats answered why I was suspended for 48 hours. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I had become suspended.

You say its challenging for a D200 in low light but you should know that a 5D excels in low light. It is such an amazing piece of kit I think its well worth loosing a lens to afford it. (Full frame too, which will require better glass)

the Talkphoto forums is also a great place to chat but most users from here are there too. You will be treated polite at these forums and offered help to assist you in whatever you ask.

Aha, I have been off and on on these forums for years and I wasn't aware of that.

<gulp>

all this talk of canon being better at low light is true BUT only by a margin.

Looking back at photos I took with Nikon D70 @ ISO 1600 and comparing it to my Canon 30D @ ISO 1600 there is not much difference.

Not sure why a lot of Canon 350/400/10/20/30D users go on about how good it handles noise like if it was god!
