New Number Plate

I know 3 people who have failed their MOT due to not having legal plates.
On each occasion this was a missing BSU mark.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people who will say their car sailed through without said marks.
But the test stations have been asked to look out for this - is it really worth the hassle of getting a fail just over a plate?

Can you elaborate on this Rabbit vaporisation? sounds interesting! :)

I have often had to call at a random place to get a new trailer number plate for my HGV, most of the time they simply ask me what the reg number is, no docs, nothing.

On a rare occasion, they may even look at the front of the truck to see what the number is....

Seems like its a law thats, like many, ignored in practice.

No elaboration required - I've told you how it is in the post above.

It doesnt really matter how useless the member of staff serving you is, numberplates are numberplates

I wondered if there were any decent sites that would post them out to you, thus saving me a trip to the dealers, and being irritated by a sullen excuse for customer service.

Ordered my last set off the internet, no paperwork needed and delivered in about 2 days. Plenty of places around.

A quick google returned a number of people trying to sell me a private plate, and Demon plates, whose site didn't work properly in the office.

I remembered using a site previously that would let you design a plate, from anything as simple as a border around the plate, to flags and logos if that tickled your fancy...

As above, I get mine from Fancyplates. Excellent quality and excellent service. Ordered a new front plate just now in fact, as my current one has been violated by a rather large stone it would seem!

I think fancyplates was the one I used before... Cheers... :)

I use Demon Plates. Reminds me I need to get my private plate on the MX-5 actually. This car has had import plates with the lettering on one line (so illegal, basically as the fonts slightly smaller) and nobody has bothered about it. I don't travel near the usual places to get a plate locally so online does me fine. Spose I'll get stopped on the way home now!

I've had my car pass 2 MOTs at an Audi main dealer with plates from fancyplates, therefore no official markings. It's probably just pot luck on who you get to do your MOTs to be honest! I don't know too many testing stations that are going to be that bothered with that particular rule. More concerned with actual roadworthiness. Just my experience.

Having 'Demon Plates' on your car is not cool.

Just pop to the dealer, pay 9.80 a plate, job done. You can have the GB/EU thing on them as well for that.
