Hey guys well i was wondering if it's worth upgrading my cpu, ram and motherboard? Atm I am running an AMD FX57 2.8ghz pc3200 (Zalman CNPS9500 AM2 CPU Cooler) corsair low latency 4gb raptor HDD 64gb with a GTX260 Maxcore, Corsair HX 850W ATX Modular ,Win XP pro And ASUS A8n32-sli Deluxe would like to know If I will see a big improvement going from an AMD fx57 to let’s say a i7 in games mostly? I would use the GTX260 I have about £800-1000 to spend. Pc will mainly be used for gaming, video editing/recording, photoshopping and watching HD movies I’m also using a 24inch ProLite E2407HDS LCD I would like the computer to be future proof and play all the games on max settings at highest res 1920x1080 I could invest more if it’s worth it. But honestly I think it’s time for this 5 year old pc to retire I’m also not too sure that the graphics card can still keep up with all the latest games coming out but not too sure on that one.

Edit: other things i forgot to mention my Case is an Antec 1200, X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series PCI Express and a 500GB western digital My Book.

I could maybe reach the £1500 mark which is my absolute max.

So in short any upgrade advice would be great I really want a future proof system that will last me as long or longer then the system I have now also I want to overclock the system big time. so I’m looking to Overclock the new system too I have done some Overclocking on mates pc’s but never bothered with this system since its ancient :P

Ps. This is a very odd system since I have an overkill psu and graphics card for a system that’s 5years old so pay no attention but when I did buy them I did have the thought on my mind that I would use it on my new system should I ever make 1 and psu was bought recently with the idea it would be used on my new system.

Ok. First question seems to be the fx57 -> i7. Probably yes, you'll see an improvement. :p

Other upgrade advice..If you want a new system, then I would say keep the psu and case (edit: maybe hdd too, although i imagine you'll want some more storage space), sell off everything else in MM and invest in a well cooled i7 rig with some high end ATi 5000 series graphics horsepower behind it.

How's the airflow in the antec case?

the airflow is great np at all with it but i do get high temps on my cpu but i'm guessing that's normal for the old AMD's 53˚C but my room is very warm.

and regarding fps well i have noticed the system is starting to take a beating so to speak i'm having to play things on medium settings nowadays and have avoided buying any of the new games since i cant bear the thought of playing them on mid settings i need to experience them on max settings so i can fully enjoy it to the max :P i did forget to mention i have an external HDD 500GB western digital My Book :P
