So, I have rebuilt my pc, using lots of new bits - mobo etc..
I tried to install my old XP software, then had a problem with a hard drive, so had to start again.
Now, I am told that a file (windows root\system32\HAB.DLL) is corrupt, so I cannot continue to load it. Having read various threads on here about the legality of re-using software, I was hoping to be honest when it came to activating it, but now I can't even get this far.
So, unless one of you can help me with getting the damaged file onto the new hard drive (I have burned it to a cd, but the new cd player isn't working yet) then what shall I do - get a new copy of xp pro, or go for vista, and if so, which vista - i don't play games, just want to be able to get online, edit photos and make mixed cd's from my collection.
Any ideas ?
Also, having looked at the prices on the microsoft site, is there a good place to buy online where I can download to a cd/dvd ?
Cheers all,
Steve
