new overclockers computer problems

Hi there, my apologies if this is not the right thread, if it is not let me know and i can re-write it elsewhere.

So anyway, i recieved my overclockers computer this week, and i've had a number of issues, some i've managed to resolve over the past few days, overs not.

After finding the sound card was not screwed in and had come out of the slot, i fitted it and screwed it in, also only the ssd appeared when i clicked on 'my computer', after going onto disk management i found the other hard drive on there, i believe after right clicking it i had to 'create a section' or something, either way i followed the wizard and now that hard drive is showing up.

phew! now too the problems that i can't get my head around.

When i click on 'uninstall a program', the control panel simply crashes every time.

I installed the chrome and firefox software, when i tried to download it through the set up, nothing happened, i had to right click it and 'run as administrator', i was not prompted with anything from just clicking it. Now today it appears i can't not access chrome, i can only get onto internet explorer (64 bit), not the other version.

I downloaded starcraft 2 by first trying to install it from disk, and eventually transferring it from my hard drive. The only way i could get the game to work is by right clicking the game and clicking 'troubleshoot compatibility' then clicking 'try recommended settings' and it then worked in 'xp home edition sp2' though i couldn't access my account, i got onto a friends, but today, i can not get onto starcraft at all.

I also can't open sound files (for example the sample ones), or any videos, it comes up with 'server execution failed' after about 40 seconds

Another thing, when i tried to use the disk that came with the DS PCI 7.1 sound card to install the sound driver nothing happens, i assumed that might be because the 'xonar DS driver / utility cd' was for 32 bit editions of windows, so i went online and found the drivers, yesterday i could access the setup, today nothing. so basically windows really doesn't appear to want me to access any kind of software set up, or run certain games/software, i AM the administrator on the account, all i've done since booting the computer is follow the windows 7 set up (trying a computer name and the cd key)

Now at this point i believe i've had to do a lot more than should be necessary to get this computer up and running and well, i would very much like a solution to this problem if anyone has any ideas, if not, not to worry, i will ring overclockers again and hopefully this will be willing to take the computer back and try and diagnose the problem themselves.

thanks very much
Tony

Sounds like there is an issue with your Windows install. Open a command prompt as an admin and type sfc /scannow and hit enter, then let it do it's thing.

Hi philtor, thanks for the reply, i tried what you suggested and got the following output.... 'Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.'

cheers though

Your Windows install is fine then. Could be related to the RAM, HDD or even an unstable overclock perhaps. Might be best contacting OcUK to see what they suggest.

Yeah, well luckily i can ring them from work so thats not a problem, but i've posted in there. I hit another problem last night,

I accidentally made my 2nd hdd the 'primary active partition', i then realised that i shouldn't have done this as it would look for the operating system from this drive, and changed it back straight away. When i shut down my compupter and restarted it though, it said 'BOOKMGR is missing'. I hit f12 and tried booting from the SSD and i hit the same error, what should i do? Do i need to buy a new copy of windows 7 or something? arrrrrggg
cheers
Tony

Spanky, put the Windows DVD in the drive and boot from that. When you get to the setup screen with the "Install" button on click the "Repair My Computer" hyperlink that is underneath it. This should search for boot problems and fix them for you.

Hi Cokecan, I did try this and i believe it came up with some kind of 'installation backup software' but i couldn't see a repair my computer option. I rang overclockers today and with all the previous problem as well they've said they will pick it up to take a look at it, thanks for the help i'll let you know how it goes
regards
Tony
