New Ozone Strike Mechanical Keyboard! - WITH REVIEW!

Hmmmm, not sure about no windows key on left. I think you get used to it being there and also one other thing that is O/T....

Where does one get the OCUK mouse mats? not seen them before is that just for ocuk staff?

Not going to lie, it does look quite smart, and I am looking into getting a mechanical keyboard (all non-switch gaming keyboards seem pathetic these days compared to my old trusty Saitek Eclipse II !!!). Shame about the price though, bit higher than I've seen elsewhere.

Any chance you're taking some mechanical keyboards to LITS? Would give a good chance to "feel the difference" :D

<meme>Why? Because **** you, that's why!</meme>

Better switch action. Better build quality (particularly for plate mounted switches). Better ergonomics. Particularly if they're tactile or clicky switches, which alert you to when the actuation point is reached by clicking, or bumping, so you are not depressing the key through it's entire length of travel and bottoming the key out. Or having to suffer the feeling of scissor switches with such a low length of travel you're forced to abruptly bottom out the keys.

Why does it matter if a key bottoms out? Its either on or off right? Anyone got a link to a good pros/cons of mechanical keyboards? I currently use a scissors kb and love the short laptop style key presses.

Ergonomics. Most people when they type apply more force than is necessary to depress a key and reach the actuation point. The point at which a keystroke is registered on a rubber dome keyboard is at the very bottom of travel (as the membrane has to meet the PCB). Applying too much force and bottoming out a key puts undue stress on your digits. This is why blue and brown switches are better. The actuation point of the keystroke is half way through the travel. The switch tells you the stroke has been registered by clicking or bumping at the actuation point. This stops you applying excessive amounts of force and bottoming out to register the keystroke. Black and red switches are linear and have neither audible or tactile feedback so these can be tricky to learn where the actuation point is and where it successfully registers. It's why they're not recommended for typing.

If you spend hours every day pushing a switch on and off, you want something that is ergonomic, comfortable and requires the least amount of force to actuate.

Laptop style keys are the worst for me. It doesn't matter how little force I use for typing, but I end up with numb finger tips within 10 to 15 minutes of typing. The travel to actuation point is so low on laptops keyboards RSI is a given. Bottoming out is just something that you have to live with with those particular types of keyboards.

As for places of reading, Deskthority.net and Geekhack.org (though geekhack has been down a couple days because of bull**** drama).

"- DESIGNED TO LAST AND PERFORM
Strike uses double nylon braided cables to ensure their durability and 18K gold plated connector to give you the performance that you need to be the best."

I'm sure that 18K gold plated connector will make all the difference.

My non gold plated keyboard connector is such a pain. :D

I still have my Model M that is a month older than I am, and this thing is just a joy to work with. Shame it's the US layout though.

Seems like a nice keyboard, I do love the WASD keys in their alternative colours, if I ever "upgrade" from this Model M I might have to look into this one!

Because I have 3 other mechanical keyboards on the way along with the Corsair range. Oh and a G19 and a MS Reclusa for back up :p.

Keyboard fettish?

I'd love to be able to try before you buy on keyboards and mice.

Sort that out OcUK ;) Have 1 or two peices of kit you can send people to try and if they don't return it within X days you can charge their cards :)
