Hi.

I'm looking to build my first PC in about 15 years

I'm making a lot of assumptions that I should still be able to pull this off with the limited knowledge I have.

Earlier in the year I purchased a hard drive and a Corsair case (not got the models to hand but can get them later if needed) and I already have a monitor.

I'm kind of ruing my decision not to just buy an overclockers bundle to fit my budget and get the warranty etc (and it built for me) but i'm already part in now so not sure what to do.

So other than the three items above, I need to purchase the lot. (no software)

Budget is about £700-£1000

Could anyone please offer some advice

Many thanks in advance

Stret

Heres a starting point , the 6600k can be overclocked and the gtx 1060 is good for 1080p gaming. There are lots of scope with your budget but witch end of the budget wdo you want to be ?

What case model and hard drive please ? and monitor res.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £822.89
(includes shipping: £0.00)

Hi Micky

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I have a scandisk x110 ssd hard drive, could i use that and substitute the sammy for a case and get the OC guys to build it do you think.

I'm considering ditching the idea of building it for convenience.. although not ruling it out

edit. Case is corsair spec 03

Monitor is 1080p but am considering getting 1440

You could get a new case and ask overclcokers to build it, lets put something toegether and then you can post it in the Customer service part of the forum for a quote on the build.

If your going 1440p the 1060 will cope but you may wanna stretch to a 1070

Want to pick a case ? And thoughts please.

whats the price difference between the 1060 and 1070?

not massively fussy on the case if i'm honest. I just liked the look of the Spec 03.

That SSD i have will be ok in that build wont it (could always upgrade it later)

if i did do it myself in my case and dropped the hard drive then that would take it to just over £750 which is great.....

Build it yourself, your ssd will be fine as for the 1070 there another £130+ for the cheapest. You could get a cheaper power supply as well to save money but this is non modular.

Forgive my ignorance on this, its been a while, non modular is where the cables are fixed no?

What is the downside to this?

I'm leaning again on doing it myself, could you please link me up to the 1070 i cant seem to find it.

Thanks again for the help

OK so i think i'm going to go with the 1060 and the non modular psu (not that bothered about the cables)

Just to put into context this will be used for standard day to day stuff but the kids play sim games (the sims, sim city) and the lad plays stuff like civilization. (maybe a bit more if given the chance)

I suppose i'm just looking for something i'll get a few years from...

unless the above comments warrant more consideration i reckon ill pull the trigger..

Final thoughts?

again really appreciate the help pal

Modular is best as it gives you more room and better airflow. You can choose which cables to use.

I have leaned towards an overclocking build hence the aftermarket cooler and cpu motherboard combo so there is savings to be had.

Ditch the cpu cooler get a cheaper i5 and motherboard, the motherboard board is not as feature rich hence the pirice.

Do you reckon the usage I quoted above, doesn't warrant the other spec?

I'm all for a bit of saving where needed but don't mind shelling a bit more if it's going to "struggle'

It wont struggle with the 6500 and cheaper board the other option its about overclcoking and feature rich boards.

You will be good to go for a few years.

6500 and gtx 1060 is a great choice imo with what you have said.

That's an absolutely belting price, much less than I had envisioned.

Think I'll go on that.

Thank you

Your welcome

A word of advice make sure you read the motherboard manual dont skip threw it. Also remeber to set the storage option to AHCI in the bios for your SSD.
