New PC advice and spec

Hi all,

I want to buy a new PC in a few weeks. I was originally going to get a gaming rig with top end processor and G card, but have decided to wait until Q1-2 2010 once the DirectX 11 cards are out and there is a little more competitiveness in the g card market.

But I still need a PC for light gaming and primarily photo editing. Budget is around £300 for the monitor and £300 for the rig. I can go higher if the extra cost is justified.

I do know that I would like a like 22" widescreen able to play full HD (hope that is the right terminology), but that is where my knowledge comes to a grinding halt :-)

I have read a lot of posts on this forum vbut must admit to being a bit confused on the model numbers and what is a good combi versus a bad combi. I am totally unsure what is a good processor, gcard etc and what would give me the best value for money.

I know this is a bit open ended, but any advice would be gratefully received.
One last thing, this rig would be demoted to internet rig once I get the high end rig later next year (that will be around £1000 budget for rig only).

Here's hoping you can help. THanks in advance.

Hi, you'd be better spitting your £600, £200/£400 monitor/rig
For the monitor have a look at the 22" Dell with e-IPS screen, good quality panel, its not full HD but is very good quality and should suit you perfectly, out of stock atm, see if they have an eta, alternatively the samsungs are very good and meet your HD needs but only use TN panels (not quite as good colourr reproduction or viewing angles)
For the rig, if you look at the thread in my sig theres a £400 build in there which would suit you spot on, capable of gaming now then as you say can be relegated to secondary PC next year

Thanks for that. The £400 build looks good. Just a quick question though. There seems to be some Samsung 23" monitors that come in at around £200 and have a res that supports 1900x1080. Are they no good?
