Hi Guys

Apologies as i don't know how to do that basket thing that makes it all into clickable links.

I'm about to order the following and just wanted it checked really. I wasn't sure about the graphics cards as i'd like it to be a fairly quiet system but with 2 cards in sli, i went for the blower design cards. Will these be too loud? I will be changing all the case fans out for quieter ones. Could i go for aftermarket cards that blow the hot air into the case if i have sufficient airflow?

I already have ssd's for boot, games and photo's and i bought 16gb of geil potenza 3000mhz DDr4 memory in the black friday deals.

cheers guys

In my opinion the system will be great! And it's all compatible. Seems all will fit fine, though for GTX, you could go single 980 and later on add another one. Not as powerful as 2 970s but still more flexibility, more room and less heat with single. :)

Here are a few alternative parts.

A 750W is enough for GTX 970 SLI. The EVGA psu has a longer warranty than the Superflower (They both share the same platform/manufacturer)

The H100i is out of stock and a bit of a pain with Win 8.1. The Coolermaster is a good alternative.

The X99-S cpu/board bundle works out about £10 more, but you get a better board.

1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £89.99
1 x Cooler Master Nepton 240M AIO Cooling Solution £79.99
Total : £693.56 (includes shipping : £8.00).

The Corsair Link software that comes with the H80i and H100i doesn't like Windows 8.1 I have tried several fixes but still no joy.

You cans till run with H100i fine with Windows 8.1 but you don't have the link software access, I just control the fans via my mobo.

Look at the H105 if you don't want the "i" stuff.

thanks for the help guys. I think i'll go with the x99-s bundle and i didn't know about the cashback so thanks for that!

i may want to upgrade gpu's in the future so i don't want to drop down to 750w just in case it's not enough.

I currently have a corsair H100 in my current system. does anyone know if i could use that with the 5820k?

Yes your old H100 should work fine. The mounting holes are the same for 2011 (X79) and 2011-3 (X99) so as long as you have the 2011 mounting kit then you should be fine.

CAM software works fine with win 8.1 and LGA 2011 compatible. you can get them for £100 if u shop around. it's very quiet. currently cooling a 4790k -> idle is 26C load is 38C w/ fans running at 25% rpm (840rpm) I can't hear the variable pump or the fans. when it gets hotter in summer or I want to overclock, I have a plenty of headroom to keep things cool
it is bigger (280mm) and thicker so you need a case that will accommodate that. my only negative is that the Intel mounting backplate seems a bit flimsy, but it does the job so cant really complain. the AMD one is metal and not plastic like the Intel.

my 2 cents

my monitor is asus 1440p pb278q i think. yes it's mainly for gaming. i am aware that ddr4 and x99 are overkill but i want it regardless. All i want to be upgrading for the next few years are the gpu's.
