Hey all, I got a problem, atm i have my motherboard and CPU/RAM connected on top of my motherboard box. It boots up and brings up bios but im getting no beeps even though i have my speakers plugged in.

Anyone know why this is?

When you say you have your speakers plugged in are talking regard the main speakers or the speaker which gets plugged in to the motherboard header next to the power switch ect.

external speakers (ones from my old system) i think my MOBO should have onboard sound, but plugged speakers in aswell to be sure, but no beeps.

You need the little speaker which plugs into the motherboard header, the post noise does not come out of the main speakers :)

where would i find these?

I put the system together yesterday and was getting no display or anything, today i rechecked things and i think it was the cpu not seated correctly, it's loading bios now so should i try putting it back in the case and see if it works, and then add CD drive/HDD's/GPU?

Yes, as you have it working, Check your case leads you may have one already in your case, if not do a search for motherboard speaker. Ocuk don't sell them, pic below:

Ok thanks a lot for your help, i suppose this is good news, i was thinking there was something wrong with something :S

Sorry to be a right pain, but when plugging the leads into the f_panel i have 1 left which has GND on it but i have no idea where it goes, just wondering if this is important?

And also last night when i had it built in my case it would power on via the button but wouldn't turn off, how can i change this?

Thanks again.

Were does the lead go to, it may be the ground lead for a LED.

Usually you need to hold the on button for 5 seconds before the pc will turn off.

Im not sure where it goes, i'm using my old case with new components and it was already there but cant see where it should go, i've looked in my mobo manual but doesnt mention a GND lead.

Also i've tried holding the power button, but it doesn't respond, it powers on, but will never power off.

got it all in the case now and is loading BIOS, just need to sort out what drive boots first etc i think? :P

Right got another little problem, my HDD's are showing up in the BIOS, but when i try and load a OS it's saying not enough memory, so there not being detected after i leave BIOS?

I have a Maxtor 180GB HDD from my old system and a Samsung F3 500GB i bought the other day. The Samsung is fresh (nothing on it at all) and the Maxtor was reformated.

What hard drive are looking to install windows on.

What does windows show the capacity of the drive, or do you not get that far.

I got it sorted for now, didnt know windows xp didn't recognise SATA, had to put my old WD 120GB IDE which had it installed already, ill use this for now untill i get paid so i can buy windows 7.

Thanks for your help RJC.
