Hi, been using overclockers for years, only just realised you have a forum
anyway, the end of this month/begining of january (depending on when i get paid cos of new year) i plan on building a powerful pc, i have around £3k to spend but need monitor, keyboard, mouse as well (dont need an o/s or speakers).

This is what i've thought about:

Any sugestions?
Have thought about watercooling, but never used it myself so am a bit cautious about it, and wondered how easy the Corsair H50-1 or the Coolermaster V10 are to install, and how they compare. Also not sure if the case i chose is big enough or what the airflow is like.

As far as the keyboard etc... go i am thinking about the G19 keyboard, razer mamba mouse and LG Flatron W2261V 22" monitor. which brings the whole lot to £3,043.23. if i can get the same performance for less, obviously i'd prefer that :D

Any help will be really apriciated as am going to be spending a lot of money on this :D

Troll?

Dont get the 975. Its realllllly overpriced and isnt likely to outperform the 920 when overclocked, which saves around £500.

Having 6x2GB sticks is likely to affect the overclocking ability (though getting 3.33GHz out of a 920 is still likely to be easy).

The velociraptors are very expensive for what they are, you could get a fully covered RAID setup for less and it should perform better.

Very expensive build. Wish I had that much to blow.

H50 will outperform the V10, if you want an air cooler the Megahelems can outperform the H50 depending on the fans.

The Cosmos case is VERY spacious. Seen a few large watercooling builds in them

Also worth mentioning the VAT is going to 17.5% in january i believe. If you are certain on having the money coming in it may be worth looking into the OcUK financing.

Get the i7 920 instead it's way cheaper and you can just overclock it to just as high as the i7 975 resulting in exactly the same performance.

GTX 295 is way overpriced, it runs hot, and consumes A LOT of power. Get the 5870 instead, it performs pretty much equally if not better, give or take a few benchmarks, is much cheaper, and has DX11. Or you could get a 5970 which is two 5870 GPU's on one PCB for roughly 500+ which is double the performance of the GTX 295 and 5870 just clocked down a little. It can easily be clocked just as high, if not higher.

12GB RAM? 286 quid? Really? Let me guess you're a gamer? Just get 6GB then you will not notice any difference what so ever, even 4GB RAM is enough for other dual chanel platforms by far if you game. I'd get 6gb Gskill 1600MHz RAM though i'm not sure if they sell them on this site.

Motherboard is overprced, i'd just get a Gigabyte UD3R or something which is much cheaper and performs very similarily but with a few less features.

1000W is overkill. 650W-750 Corsair MAX

Velociraptors are stupidly overpriced. Get a 32GB Corsair SSD for your OS and a 1TB hard drive for storage

All of that would bring the price down considerably.

EDIT: You need to be shot considering £3000 on a PC, especially if its for gaming, i hope you're trolling.

lol not a troll, just not built a pc in a while and a bit out of date with the tech, also been saving for a looooong time :D
i just kinda asumed the more expensive the better performance i'd get, the plan with the hdd's was to use the SSD for the O/s and have velociraptors in raid0, but if i can get good performance for less i'd definatly go that route, also how easy is it to install watercooling? my natural instinct is to keep liquid away from a pc :p
Edit: yeah its for gamming, but dont want somthing im going to have to upgrade any time soon, will look into the ATI cards, and i got the 1000w idea from another site i'd been looking at that recommended it for the gtx295.

No real need for all that really
12GB ram?
Kingston SSD with that money? Get an Intel one and get better performance
Get a 920 and overclock and get 2 x gcards!

Two Samsung F3's would perform very well, and give you more capacity for the money.

Ive not installed Watercooling before so dont have 1st hand experience, but people normally say you will be fine as long as you - research everything thoroughly, and test the loop properly outside the system.

The 5870 is a good way to go, and you can set the rest of the rig up so that adding another later on is always an option.

Pretty rash statements really:

you would have to be crazy to pick at gtx 295 over the 5970

I can think of a few reasons:
-£120/£160
-Avoiding ATi's current compatibility issues with W7 (I dont know for certain that there are with the 5970 though, read up on it not take my word for it. And I know 2 people with 58##'s with issues and im having issues with an earlier ATi in W7 myself).
-Size

That GTX295 is a Co-op.
Im not saying OP should buy one, I would probably go for the 5870 myself. But its not an outrageous decision.

OP, something along these lines with your choice of cooling and case:

EDIT: Truly I cannot add :( You're probably better off buying the components seperately and overclocking yourself. You'll find many many people on this forum with the same setup who are happy to help if (when) you run into problems..

yeah, i worked it out cheaper as well, but noticed on some bundles they charge for overclocking them, which made me think i was going wrong somewhere

Obviously spending £3k on a PC is going to get you a lot of nice stuff. However, you can do almost as well for a fraction of the price. If I had to spend £3k on an air-cooled PC, taking hints from the components you originally picked, it would probably be something like this:
