Hello everyone,

I Have been coming here a lot, but this is the first time I am posting... please go easy! Seeing as how amazing the community is here, I wanted to try and get your expertise in my new potential build. I want to upgrade my rig after 7 years, and with the new Ryzen 9 now out, it think ts time to stump it up! I am "fairly" knowledgeable regarding PC's, but have been out of sync since I built my last one. I would prefer something that is a bit future proof over spending less money. Gaming is the primary reason for the rig (but also general day to day work).

1) can anything be improved, but keeping around the same budget (1.5k € would be around the price point)
2) is something wrong here, or something would not work out when combined?
3) Am I missing something?

Here would be by purchase list...

CPU
  • AMD Ryzen 9
Motherboards
(Choice of 4...not sure which one )
  • MSI MEG X570
  • ASUS Prime X570-PRO
  • Asus ROG Strix B450-F (cheaper option)
  • Gigabyte X570 (AORUS MASTER)

Memory
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX (2 x 16gig ddr4)

GPU

  • XFX RX 5700 XT Thicc III Ultra 8GB GDDR6 2025MHz 3Xdp (RX-57XT8TBD8)

Would this work with all the motherboard options above?

SSD

  • Samsung MZ-V7S1T0BW SSD 970 EVO Plus 1 TB M.2 Internal NVMe SSD
(I have an existing Samsung 150 Gig 840 Pro which I would bring, which I guess would still be alright for storage I assume)

Fan

  • ARCTIC Freezer 34 - Tower CPU Air Cooler

PSU

  • Corsair RM850x PC Power Supply (is this overkill? needed?)

Case

I currently have a Corsair Memory Obsidian 650D Enthusiast Mid-Tower, which I would re-use (I assume is fine?)

Accessories

Keyboard, monitor, mouse are all covered (but best on markets would always be welcome!)

Thanks all in advance!!

/Sam

Welcome aboard.

If wanting longest lasting PC with only graphics card upgrades along the way, then Ryzen 3900X is the best choise by having cores to dedicate for any game regardless of background gunk.
If you're willing to upgrade CPU, then 3700X now and improved Zen3 architecture 12 core when those go to discount (should happen in winter 21-22) after release of Zen4 would give longer life.

Asus B450-F is best described as completely overpriced for quality brand scam with garbage level CPU power circuitry. (VRM)
100W TDP CPUs like 2700X/3900X will make it literally overheat (and hopefully emergency brake before burning up) when running full all core load.
In fact Asus (or Gigabyte) doesn't have any single worth its price B450 board and MSI B450 Tomahawk would be only sensible B450 choise for 100W CPUs.

In X570 it's again MSI who proudly took the consumer scamming torch carrier role by using B450 copypasta VRM in half the range.
While Asus and Gigabyte again turned their boats around and improved VRMs making MSIs look crap for the money.
Asus just facepalmed in X570 chipset coolers using 15 years past level lack of design quality in those:
Small heatsink under those big marketing BS covers is made from tinfoil origami and relies entirely on fan's airflow to work.
Also its positioned to worst possible place directly under graphics card and to be pathed by its heat.
In comparison properly designed and positioned chipset coolers can operate semi passively and even fan failure wouldn't mean automatically overheating chipset.

Also there's no sense to pay arm and both legs.
For reasonable price X570 Aorus Elite has overkill for any AM4 CPU VRM and properly designed chipset cooler along with otherwise good well balanced feature set.

In memory make sure it's 3200MHz CL16 or better.
Also prices can vary often. In 3200MHz Patriot is currently best priced with tighter latencies than others.

Radeon 5700 XT is good bang per choise to go for until we have big generational performance jump.
IIRC Gigabyte and PowerColor custom models are the best cooled. (Asus Strix mediocre and TUF scam)

Forget nowadays brand overcharging Samsung in SSDs.
Standard level WD Blue SN550 would be perfect for gaming PC with lot less price.
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/wd-b...-solid-state-drive-wds100t2b0c-hd-56l-wd.html
Then there's higher end TeamGroup MP34 for £10 more.
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/teamgroup-mp34-1tb-nvme-pcie-m.2-solid-state-drive-hd-00b-tg.html

Arctic Freezer 34 would be excellent for 3700X and while not bad for 3900X I would still go for beefier model.
BeQuiet ShadowRock 3 would be good at £45
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/be-quiet-shadow-rock-3-high-performance-cpu-cooler-hs-01h-bq.html

Case is perfect to continue in its job, but 550W PSU is cutting it too tight for high end CPU and power hungry graphics card.
Availabilities seem to have gone worser, but this 7 year warranty SuperFlower would be good starting level.
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/supe...old-modular-power-supply-black-ca-060-sf.html
Then there's Seasonic Focus for 10 year warranty + same insides based Phanteks AMP, if stopping to 80+ Gold efficiency ones.

In monitors room illumination affects to what would be best type of LCD.
IPS has overall best image quality and consistent response times with latest tech LG panel pretty much beating average TNs.
But in dark room VA's way superior contrast/black is the best.

In keyboard you should take possible noise and what switch type you're currently using into account.

First of all, thank you EsaT - you are an absolute superstar! The feedback was fantastic and in depth...the motherboard insight blew me away, I never knew they were so bad! Most reviews seem good when I looked them up...the MSI feedback is crazy

I will go with all your choices that you stated above!

Would the Be Quiet! Dark Rock 4 also be a good option? I ask, as where I am (Germany), it seems to be only a few Euros more. I am going to see what I can order from here, and check how much the price conversion would be.

Could the Seasonic Focus PX 80PLUS Platinum (FOCUS GX-Serie, running at 750W) also be a good choice? Like above, availability of the others seem to be limited for me here and the price would be better (would save €10 to the Phanteks AMP you listed which is much more expensive over here)

Thanks once again for the other tips! Saved some money with the motherboard and SSD, so super happy there. Need to see what I can do regarding the memory, as the teamgroup I cant get here.

In words of Buildzoid (check Youtube) all board brands/makers suck.
If you buy just for brand you're going to get scammed sooner or later.
That's why every company and their pet dog wants to brand things, including all that ga(y)mer stuff like headphones etc.

MSI was literal hero in B450 and only one paying proper attention to VRM quality.
While Asus just brand hype scammed with crappy VRM components and cooling sabotaged by those plastic marketing excrements covering heatsinks.
Brand BS marketroids are literally sabotaging cooling nowadays!
In The Stilt's testing stock 2700X made Strix B450-F overheat and throttle CPU in 12 minutes when doing x264 encoding. (not even Prime)
Even 2600X with PBO enabled was too hot.

Then MSI went from hero to zero in X570.
With Wifi B450 Carbon was basically the ultimate B450 board, but X570 Carbon...

At least there's something good in higher softening/melting point of lead free solder:
It decreases the risk of board starting to desolder itself to pieces!

Have to wonder what's quality order in next round of boards...

Dark Rock 4 is good, though pricy and doesn't give full clearance for all four DIMM slots.
Scythe Fuma 2 (superb clearances for dual tower) and Mugen 5 would be other good ones.
SilentiumPC Fortis 3 is also good.

Seasonic Focus Gold/Platinum is good PSU.
Difference in between those is few components and small efficiency difference.
(Seasonic Prime is top level PSU with top level performance and 12 year warranty)

PNY CS3030 is same components/controller using alternative to TeamGroup.

For gaming use SM2262EN controller based Adata SX8200 Pro is also good and Gammix S11 Pro itsgaming branded version.
HP EX950 is pretty identical to SX8200 Pro, but with some kind little customized firmware.

Really surprised by that...when I built my last one, that certainly didnt seem to be the situation.

Thanks once more - here is then my updated list, based on your feedback. Anything missing / all correct?

/\/\ I'd remove the links for the PSU & the GFX card, those links are against forum rules.

Gigabyte 5700XT is the one to buy because of the RMA Service (assuming its the same in Germany as it is here)

You could drop to a 650W PSU if you want to save a few Euros. Corsair RM/RMx or Seasonic Focus GX/PX/Prime PSU's are solid choices.

thank you for the heads up, removed those. Will check out your recs, thanks!

would the drop to 650W change much? I don’t mind spending for the “better” choice

@EsaT speaks much wisdom. Assuming you currently play games at 1080p I'm going to suggest that you hold off an expensive GPU for now and go for something like a GTX 1660 Super or RX 590. Both of those will give you a good 1080p gaming experience. New GPUs are expected this summer - only a few months off - and when those come out prices will shift and at that point you should purchase a new GPU and monitor combo, and I would look for a 4K or 3440x1440 display.

I would say that the build is pushing its limits now(its about 7 years old)... it can just about handle the latest COD on low settings, and the same with PUBG

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Card name: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
Monitor Model: BenQ XL2411Z
samsung 150gig 840 pro ssd

can I do anything with this?

That's a 4770, not a 4770K, right? If the former, it's not overclockable, which is a shame. It's not a bad CPU and a simple GPU upgrade might tide you over until it's time to spend major money. Fire up Afterburner and look at the CPU and GPU usage. If your CPU usage is not near 100% then you are primarily GPU-limited.

Anyway, you mentioned that you live in Germany, you might want to purchase from Caseking, who are OCUK's EU partner.

RX580/590 and another 8GB of RAM might help a bit, but as said, locked CPU means no overclocking, so it all depends on how that's holding up.

Unfortunately just the standard - I made a bad choice back then with it!

Will give the afterbuner a check and see - if think would be viable for just the GPU, then could be an option - although I was excited about having something super good, compared with "getting along".

Good to know also about Caseking, will check that out also (I have been over for 10 years now), and if I could do a bundle there, even better.

That's the sort of thing, but boy prices have gone up again, before the world stopped 590's were the price 580's are at now. It'll work fine in your motherboard, I built a PC for my nephew with an RX580 in that exact model of board.

You will be limited in getting new DDR3 memory for your PC, but if you shop around, it's still available.
