Pandora and Shogun
They're a mid-tower and both have solid reviews (brief glance) - personally like the look of the Pandora, very sleek (but no optical bay).

Mid towers tend to come with less fans - so you may need to buy additional fans for your cooling needs (If they're still going to Australia) - either front intakes or for venting at the top - depending on how you setup the AIO.

Mhm... I'll throw the ideas and such at him and see what he thinks hehe. Both of those cases are ones he has liked :)

Ooo kinda nice too, Gah! He hasn't been around last couple of days so haven't been able to send him info xD Damn him and working so much haha

Wonderful thank you, also he likes the case you chose haha! So will probably go for that one (Phanteks Enthoo) unless he changes his mind.

Ok this is what he has brought:

My query is because the idiot didn't listen, will four sticks of ram fit in his pc? I know he isn't going to need 64gb of ram but apparently me telling him that didn't help xD

Nice spec - should keep him entertained for a while :)

The board will take 64GB so that's not a problem (if ever he needs it).

He's bought quality memory but it's harder to get 32Gb stable at 3000/3200MHz but BIOS updates will hopefully resolve this if he runs into issues.

Some members originally had 4 sticks and converted to 2 x 16Gb - it really is still hit and miss as to the best combo.

He is mental haha!

Thank you for getting back to me fast, I assume it will be pretty basic and easy to update in the BIOS? Still don't think he will need 64GB xD

Certainly has expensive tastes :)

Not a problem Ammeg, has been interesting watching the build develop - appreciate the feedback.

Yes, it's very straight forward using Q-Flash.
  • Format a USB pen drive using fat 32
  • Transfer just the BIOS file to the drive (the official BIOS is F3 - they have a F4e BETA which includes the latest AGESA release - this should be hitting official release soon - and will hopefully help with any potential memory issues. Not a problem if you want to use this.)
  • Hold the <END> key on boot to enter Q-Flash
  • Locate the drive/file
  • Flash the BIOS
  • Follow prompts
Best of luck with the build. If you run into problems i'll remain subbed. And if you have pics - would love to see them.

He could have easily saved hundreds on that build and still had the same performance but I guess it is too late now :)

Also no SSD ?

Believe it or not he saved 2K :)

His original budget was 6K - and he wanted the best. Ammeg, is aware it's overkill - but it seems that the buyer wanted ultimate power coupled with quality components.

Also no SSD ?
Noticed that too - presuming has them already, as they were specced.

Still a lot that could have been shaved off though i.e R7 1700 instead of the 1800X and cheaper Ram etc. I guess if you can throw £6K at a pc in the first place then saving a few quid here and there is pretty insignificant.

Agreed - and the buyer was well aware all the way - plus builder/Ammeg is pretty clued up. Below was my initial posts. The OP did a considered build for the clients/friends wishes - all you can do. (all in the thread).

But if you have the money it's great to have the best. I've done it in the past - but go for bang for buck for the thrill of getting every ounce out of the machinery.

Different strokes etc..
The core of their PC is still very capable - it's let down by the dated GFX card.

All they need do ideally is clock the CPU - and add a decent third party cooler if they haven't got one already. And couple this with a decent GFX card - the addition of a modern card having the biggest impact.

  • If they game at 1080p they would plug in an RX 580 8Gb (or GTX 1070 if flush).
  • If they game at 1440p then a GTX 1070 will suffice (or GTX 1080 if flush).
The above relevant combos will totally reinvigorate their PC - and allow it to play and record all games at ULTRA for a minimal outlay.
I need to revise my 'nice budget' range to £1000 to £6000.

There's a degree of spending money for spending sake within the spec - you could drop to 16Gb and make do with less SSD storage (although this is a luxury i like) and a Ryzen 1700 would be more than adequate. So keep in mind you could cut another £1000+ off the build.

he didn't want a ssd in the end but seems to be happy enough with his build. He wanted to spend as much as he could it seems hahahaha

No harm in that if you have the money - and he's happy :)

Got to spend your money on something - may as well be something you enjoy.

Did you get to build it Ammeg?

it is on its way now so will build soon
Suspect you'll find it hard to hand over once built.

I've done a couple of Ryzen builds now (only 1600s) and as the format matures it's getting harder and harder to resist buying one for myself.

Should be a fun build!
