I have just bought a pc off a well known auction site and i recieved it today. Turned it on and it was working fine, turned off and then tried to turn on again and it is not working!
Any ideas guys?
There is a green led on motherboard.
Thanks guys

Was it pre-overclocked.

Try checking all components & power connectors are firmly in place.

anything else apart from a green light?

fans spin?

could be something as simple as the power button on the case being faulty.

short out the two pins on the motherboard its wired to

Hi got a Phenom II 545,Asus mobo,2gb ram,dvd drive,psu etc for £160
And stulid it worked first time round though :/ and i have checked the connector again, How do i short it?

what ever two pins on the motherboard the front panel power button goes too, put a needle nose pliers across it, or a piece of wire for a quick amount of time

Cant get to bios ;)
and ok so just touch both? In the manual its saying that the pwr switch goes to one pin so just quickly touch this with some tweezers or something?

Asus M3A78 Motherboard, Socket AM2+ ?

What PSU are you working with? Also, do you have any spare PSUs to hand so you can check the system with a different supply?

power switch should be two pins, unless its one pin that is shorted to ground for a moment

The power switch should be 2 pins, linked them across with tweezers.

Yeh Andi a M3A78-VM,
Its the psu with the case and i have tried another one that i have from australia (tried it and it works with another old hp i have) and i still just got the green led on the mobo
So should i short the pins or?

Do you have any details of the PSU that came with the case? There should be a sticker or two on the unit that should have its name and rating. Failing that, there should be a sticker that gives the power of the unit and the maximum power and current to the rails. Would you be able to tell use what it says.

Are you running the system with the integrated graphics at the moment or with the 8800GTS?

Also, as RJC asked, do the fans spin up now when you press the power button?

Edit: Is it possible to take a photo.

+1 this could really help us diagnose your problem

Ok so just touch it with some tweezers yeh? that wont kill my system or anything if it doesnt work will it?

With only one pin that might not work, as it looking for signal to be returned.
Ie - one pin sends the signal when you press the start button it sends the signal back.

Well thats what it shows on the manual and on the board but in the manual it describes it as 2 pin but on the picture it just shows one.....Can download the manual if you want a look?
