hey,

i've just built a new pc, parts including:
AMD PHENOM2 X2 550 BLACK sAM3
ASUS M4A78-VM MOBO
TWIN2X4096-8500C5C XMS2 DDR2 x2
1GB SAPP HD4670 11138-34-20R
500GB SGATE ST3500418AS 7200RP

i'm using an older 20-pin power supply, as opposed to the 24 pin socket on the mobo. the issue is that when i bootup, everything seems to turn on, fans swirl etc but there is no output to the monitor, either dvi or vga from the mobo or the graphics card. could the power supply be the problem? ive tried taking out a stick of RAM, the dvd drive and the hard drive. does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

I think the 20 pin should be ok, double check what the manual mentions.

Is the 4 or 8 pin for cpu power installed, also try a CMOS reset.

Have you tried another gpu?

i only have this 1, but i get no display using the onboard graphics either

the manual mentioned it might have problems booting up using 20-pin if theres a lack of power, but the psu is 500w. i have 4 pin for the cpu power installed, not done a CMOS reset yet, not entirely sure how but i will consult the mobo manual

might sound silly im surprised you didnt buy a 20pin to 24pin adapter???

the psu im using is 1 i had from a while back i just found lying around, didnt even think to check before hand about pins. suppose i could buy an adapter, cant imagine they'd be expensive..
