New PC not booting

Hi,

Recently I bought new PC parts, as follows:
i7 4790k
Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7
TeamGroup Vulcan 16GB DDR3 2400MHz (2x8GB)
Noctua D14 CPU cooler
Silverstone FT02 case
GTX 980 Ti

After setting everything up I had nothing on the screen. Some fans were spinning but not all of them.

I thought it might be an issue with PSU as it was the only old part I used. I bought EVGA 1000W P2 PSU. Exactly the same issue.

Then I found out that the pins in the CPU socket were damaged. I bought a new motherboard - Asus Maximus VII Hero.

Once I connected everything with the new motherboard, it was still not working. Motherboard lights up, CPU cooler is working, GPU lights up and its fan is working. Case fans do not work when connected to "Chassis Fan" connectors on the motherboard but they do work when connected directly to PSU via molex.

I am really going desperate here. I tried to reseat the CPU, checked if the new motherboard has CPU socket pins damaged (it doesn't) but nothing wants to work. Motherboard just shows code 00 which is meaningless. I used BIOS USB Flashback as well to make sure it is not BIOS issue.

I have two memory modules and I tried putting them in different sockets, one by one. No change.

Could it be CPU? Was it CPU right from the beginning or was it damaged by broken pins in CPU socket?

Could it be memory? Both modules faulty or memory incompatible with the motherboard/CPU?

Maybe it is another faulty motherboard? I don't know what to think any more.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have already ordered a new PSU and motherboard as you can see and it is still not working. I almost ordered a new CPU and memory today but I thought I might ask about it here first.

unplug graphic card, connect display cable from monitor to the motherboard then see if you get anything on screen,if you do flash to latest motherboard bios, then install your gpu and plug display cable from monitor to gpu, then see if its working/displaying

EDIT: if you've already updated bios just try with onboard graphics

Which part is responsible for case fans? Why are they working when connected through molex to PSU but not when connected directly to the motherboard? Is it just the motherboard or could it be CPU as well? I guess memory has nothing to do with case fans.

I have already tried using both 980 Ti and on-board graphics card. It makes no difference in my case. Nothing is showing up on the screen.

idk

tried building outside the case on wooden or cardboard surface? the mb could be shorting on the case

I tried it with the previous mb and I have tried it just now with the new one. No joy.

do you have a mobo speaker or anything like that, would at least indicated if it posts or not. As stated take the GPU out and connect to the port on the back of the mobo. Start up the system and ensure its on the correct source on the monitor.

Depends how bad the previous pins were, if they were bent really badly then possibly could have caused damage if you had some pins touching all together. Make sure to clear the cmos aswell via the jumper or take the battery out for 5 mins and put it back in.

The mobo speaker would be your first useful thing to do to see if it posts.

You can quite easily RMA all of the parts new so

I don't have mobo speaker unfortunately. I have two GPUs for testing (980 Ti) and it doesn't work with either.

My monitor is Acer with a single DisplayPort. That is what I tried with 980 Ti. I tried on-board graphics with my TV over HDMI.

About 6 or 7 pins were broken, all next to each other in the previous motherboard. Could it damage CPU?

I tried clearing CMOS by pressing the button for it on the mobo as well as taking the battery out.

I cannot RMA the previous motherboard as bent pins void the warranty based what OcUK told me. I do not know what else can be broken.

Not sure. Possible I guess.

If you can't get hold of a spare CPU from a mate, maybe buy a cheap Celeron/Pentium to test? If it works, then send the i7 to Intel or shop for replacement.

All power connectors inserted properly. I tried reconnecting them a few times.

I am not sure how the pins became bent on the last mobo. I never dropped anything on the pins or inserted CPU in a wrong way.

I might order a cheap Celeron and new 2-4 GB of cheap slower memory.

This PC was expensive from the start but now it is just out of control. New PSU, new mobo and it is still not working!

The last thing I suspect is the new mobo. I would need to be completely out of luck if that was the case though.

I damaged a 2500k with just one pin bent so it's very likely to have damaged the CPU with 6 bent pins.

Getting a cheap cpu is a good idea, the good thing is Intel is good about replacing CPU's so may be worth an RMA to see what they say.

Yes, LED's do light up on the motherboard. Start and reset buttons, red ROG logo and line pulsing as well as that display with the error code (showing 00).

I am going to receive a new CPU today. I really hope it will start working with the new one.

id say most likely if your getting stuck LEDS on the board thats indicating the problem. The LEDS will flash on start-up to indicate post procedure and the flash means it has checked that component and its ok. If a LED is stuck on it will stay like that to indicate the problem, and the LED will stay on until the problem is rectified.

I agree the problem will most likely be the CPU as bent pins would fry it. But as said intel has a really good RMA process. I bought my old 3770k used of ebay for £90, it was dead, guy wouldnt refund me so i sent it to intel for a brand new replacement :D. Took less than a week for the replacement.

Sometimes building a pc can go from easy building to a nightmare very quickly.

Yes. it is a bit of a nightmare for me at the moment. I built quite a few PCs in the past and never had issues. Now when I decided to go for a PC I always wanted, expensive one, it just doesn't work and I have to buy one new thing after another. First the motherboard, then PSU (while my older one is probably still fine) and now CPU.

I just want it to be over now, to be able to put everything together in the case, clean up the mess with the boxes, parts etc and just enjoy my new PC.

Guess what? It doesn't work with the new processor either...
"Chassis fan" connectors from the motherboard are still not working.
I've also bought a motherboard speaker and it doesn't make a sound.

I am really getting lost here. What is going on?
