New PC not booting

Guess what? It doesn't work with the new processor either...
"Chassis fan" connectors from the motherboard are still not working.
I've also bought a motherboard speaker and it doesn't make a sound.

I am really getting lost here. What is going on?

RAM next? Can you borrow a known working stick from someone for a day?

I've just ordered new RAM which I should have tomorrow evening. It is getting silly. I wouldn't be surprised if the old motherboard and CPU were still working.

I just went through a PC building video guide with the motherboard I have (I know) because I was loosing confidence. Maybe I missed something? It turns out I did not. I did everything I was supposed to.

Pop the RAM out and then boot it again if it beeps like mad then id lean to the RAM. if it doesnt make a sound then something is a miss with the board or speaker

Does it have dual bios chips? Should be a switch somewhere to flip it over to the next bios chip. Maybe the bios got corrupt somehow. sounds viable if no chassis fans are working.

edit: http://www.pcgameware.co.uk/images/Gigabyte-Z97X-GAMING-7-right.jpg

bottom right of the image where it says bios_sw, power off, flip it over to 2 then start system. should be information in the mobo manual aswell with an exact procedure on how to do it, follow given instructions :).

Dont know if it makes any difference but try the mic then flip it over 180 degrees aswell, maybe try it in another system to ensure it works aswell.

Motherboard speaker clicks instead of beeping. It clicks twice on boot and once on power off. That happens both with and without RAM. Does it mean anything? That's on Gigabyte motherboard. It has broken pins in CPU socket though.

Do you have the same problem with the new board without the damaged pins?

If so do the same procedure. If you get no sound at all do what I said and flip the bios switch to n2 chip and see if that changes anything.

On the new motherboard (Asus Maximus VII Hero) there is no sound (not even a click) from the speaker with or without the memory installed.

There is no bios switch on the Asus mobo as far as I can tell. I have updated the bios to the latest version using USB Flashback but the issue remains.

Something is a miss. If its a brand new motherboard and cpu it should be working. Dont use the bios flashback either if you can help it, i tend to always use the EZ flash tool on the bios as it is much safer.

Have you tried a different monitor, cables? Try just with the GPU connected, no hdd, ssd etc. Is there any chance you can post a picture of the inside of the case just to double check too see if anything is visually wrong. Maybe even a video of you starting it would be helpful aswell.

Are you seating the cpu in correct orientation too with thermal paste on the cooler etc?

I've received new memory and tried it with both motherboards. It is still not working. That is just silly.

I have also installed the stock cooler instead of Noctua one. Same issue.

My monitor is working because I have it connected to my laptop right now (using Display Port - the only connection it has).

I tried two different power cables and two wall sockets.

I checked once more for any bent pins in CPU socket on the new motherboard - non found, everything is fine.

I recorded a quick video of it:

Take the ram out, does this give any code other than 00?. Have you tried the old PSU and ensured it is a 12v cpu cable maybe try bios flashback with the newest bios update on the Asus website. Ensure its the only file on the usb.

Is the video with the possible damaged cpu or the new one you purchased?

Firstly, I can understand why you've bought various spare parts, but stop buying kit.

1) Take the motherboard (Either one) - put it on a cardboard box, seat the CPU, insuring it's in correctly.

2) Take a known working PSU (If it's a Corsair one, do the paperclip test - Google it) and install just the 24v rail and the 8 pin aux connector

3) Install the RAM (It's deffo DDR3, right? You haven't ordered DDR4 by accident?)

4) Install a cooler on the CPU and wire it up (I.e. fan)

Turn it on. What happens?

If you reckon you've gone through two boards, two CPU's and 2 sets of RAM, it's either EXTREMLEY bad luck or you're doing something wrong.

Both with and without RAM it gives code 00. I tried both old and new PSU and I used the right CPU cable. I flashed the latest BIOS from the Asus website and it was the only file (correctly named) on a freshly formatted USB stick (FAT32).

The video is of the new CPU.

I tried two motherboards and two PSU's. One PSU is brand new. Both are 1000W.
Both memory sets are DDR3. First one is 2400Mhz and the new one is 1600Mhz, listed in the motherboard's manual.
OracIe, what happens is exactly what you see in the video from my previous post:
- CPU fan turns on
- Motherboard lights turn on
- No lights indicating issue (there are 3 on the motherboard next to 24pin connector - CPU, VGA, Boot_Device)
- Q-Code 00 is returned
- Nothing shows up on the screen when connected through HDMI to TV or DisplayPort to monitor, tried both internal graphics card and GTX 980 Ti (two actually)
- Motherboard speaker does not make a sound when connected
- Chassis fans do not run when connected to the motherboard but they work when connected directly to PSU through molex
- Using Clear_CMOS button or removing the battery does not change anything
- I have noticed that CPU does not even get warm (this is with TWO CPU's) after shutting PC down and removing CPU heatsink
- I tried two different CPU coolers (stock and Noctua D14) and two different sets of RAM in every memory slot and nothing changes

I've asked for a replacement motherboard. It does not have any broken pins and new CPU has been used only with this new motherboard so I don't think it is damaged (CPU).

I cant watch the vid, I'm at work.

I see your location is London - where abouts?

So at one point something must have worked (Video wise) for you to upgrade the BIOS, right?

Have you upgraded the BIOS on both boards? Have you tried switching to backup BIOS?
Have you tried building outside the case?

@OracIe
Stratford in London. Nothing worked video wise from the very beginning. I upgraded the BIOS using USB Flashback. I've just put a renamed BIOS file to a memory stick, connected it to the motherboard and pressed a button. I do not need anything else to update BIOS on that Asus motherboard. Unfortunately it did not fix anything.

I tried building outside the case.
Only the new motherboard has BIOS updated as the previous one doesn't have a feature that would allow me to upgrade it without video output. I tried backup BIOS on the previous motherboard as the new one doesn't have a switch like that.

@Danny75
All I tried was without the keyboard. As far as I know I should see something on the screen even without one connected. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Motherboard is already packed and ready to be picked up. I am getting a replacement on Monday.

If your getting a replacement when you get it use the brand new cpu and don't use usb flashback, use the ez flash tool if it posts.

Must be a board or power issue if the new cpu is cold. It flashes the rog logo like it's in sleep mode as it should be solid which is pretty odd so I suspect a new board will fix it.

You really are having pretty bad luck on this build :/

You are correct - it shouldn't matter. Just worth a try based on a rumour (I've never confirmed it myself) that some mobos can be fussy about no keyboard plugged in.

If it posts I am not planning to update BIOS unless there are other issues. I had enough already.

I did not know the ROG logo should be solid. It never was solid for me. Good spot, thanks.

This is the very first time I have issues with a new PC build. Unbelievably frustrating.

Good news! It is working with the new motherboard!

I've never been so happy to see that "No keyboard detected. Press F1 to enter setup" error before!

So it turns out I have been extremely unlucky to have not one, but TWO faulty motherboards in a row.

Thanks everyone for your help! I can finally build my PC after 2 weeks of nightmares.
