Hi there :)

Im looking to build a new system based around a Q6600.

This is what I was thinking of using.

Motherboard
Memory getting 4gb of this
Watercooling
Case
Graphics Card

Can anyone please analyse this and suggest some changes?

Is that water cooling kit compatable with that mobo? Is there a better water cooling kit availible for me?

Can I attach both cooling kits to that case? Can you recommend an alternative case?

Is the memory ok for that mobo?

Thanks

Farore :)

Hello and welcome :)

I would go for a normal Ultra and get a D-tek Fusion waterblock instead.
Hi

Thanks for the kind responce! I am looking forward to being an active member in the OCUK community!

Could you please elaborate your reasons for doing the above, instead of going for the levithan graphics card which is pre water cooled?

Thanks

Farore

Edit: Would you put that water cooling block on something like this:

Do you know if the watercooling kit above in the OP would work with the motherboard in the OP? Are the diameters of the pipes the same? Will it fit?

And would it be better to buy a seperate watercooling block for the graphics card or use the one provided with the Swifttech kit?

Thanks :)

Apologies, I didn't notice you opted for the whole swiftech kit rather than just the CPU kit (which has been out of stock for a while). I think the MCW60 will need a G80 adaptor plate for the GFX.

Tubing should be fine.

I can't see any reason why the CPU block won't fit on the motherboard.

EDIT:

Custom option:

D-Tek Fuzion CPU block
D-Tek Fuzion GPU block
7/16 Masterkleer
T-line or RES
Thermochill PA120.2
DDC 18w pump
Swiftech F barbs (for easier ram watercooling routing)
2 x Yate Loon fans

Looking at about 220ish for that lot.

You can't replace the barbs on the RAM, so it's 3/8ths all round if you want that RAM. This has got the makings of big spend, bigger disappointment written all over it.

You want a system with a Q6600 in it, so current wisdom says you need a P35 motherboard. I'm going to suggest the Gigabyte P35-DS4 because it runs cool, and has every feature you could sensibly want.

For RAM, I would suggest 4GB of Crucial Ballistix PC8500. It's simple, fast and proven. 2GB is plenty at current prices though.

A good PSU is absolutely essential in this sort of system. Corsair 620W is the minimum I would suggest, better yet PC Power & Cooling 610W.

I'd also seek out the custom cooling suggested by WeeScott as it's about as good as it gets these days. While you're at it, look at buying a customised case cut to take a big (120.2 or 120.3) radiator in the roof or floor. Cases like the Akasa Eclipse 62, Lian Li V1200+II or V2000+II are excellent for this.

I'd also bodyswerve the Leadtek video card in favour of a BFG or EVGA card fitted with a proper block.

A good water-cooling specialist's advice will be invaluable in this sort of situation.

Edit: I *think* the spec on the web page is wrong. They are 1/2" barbs

The barbs are 1/4" on the ram so some sort of adapter/reducer would be required to enable it to work with the swiftech kit.

They supply 2 sizes I believe - 1/4" in the US and 3/8" in Europe. In either case, you could use an adaptor, but why compromise the whole loop to cool the RAM? And yes, I have seen those studies that show very little difference between 3/8" and 1/2", so maybe not such a big issue.

Sorry, no - but try my trust e-mail. I check that about every 30 minutes.
