Hello

I have recently installed the RTX3070 into my new PC from Overvlockers and it runs fine in windows, got the latest drivers and all is good until I run games where a few minutes in the whole system looses power and it won’t power back on straight away.

I ran FuMark and the same thing happens, I even got a photo 1 second before the system powered off and all the temps and volts look fine. Hope someone can help, thanks

The PC spec is bellow...
Kolink KL-1000M 1000W 80 Plus Bronze Modular Power Supply
AMD Ryzen 7 Eight Core 2700X 4.35GHz (Socket AM4) Processor
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB M.2 2280 PCI-e 3.0 x4 NVMe Solid State Drive (Windows boot drive)
Seagate 4TB Barracuda 5400RPM 256MB Cache Internal Hard Drive
Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 120 AIO CPU Cooler - 120mm
MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX (Socket AM4) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Team Group Vulcan Z T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MH
Microsoft Windows 10 Professional

If it just completely loses power rather than crashes that would indicate the PSU is overloaded. In theory it sounds powerful enough though.

not sure about the brand kolink or who the manufacture is but will it be able to do 1000w? some cheaper psu's say 850w etc but they dont...have you got 1 cable per power connector on the gfx card, no splitters? 3070 is 1x8 pin and 1x6pin something like that so you need 1 cable for 6 pin and 1 cable for the 8 pin

If you were able to afford RTX 3070 (and insanely brand overpriced Samsung) you should darn well be able to afford quality PSU instead of garbage.
For start that Kolink won't ever give out 1000W except maybe in form of explosion.

I tried using 2 separate cables from the PSU and it crashed
Return the PSU from wherever you bought it and get something better, it's low quality and you don't want to have the headache of losing parts when it fails. A decent 700w+ Gold rated PSU will be much better than the Kolink.

Corsair TXM Gold 750w or if you want to push your budget out either a SeaSonic Focus or SeaSonic Focus Plus would be what you want.

I have had a reply and Overclockers won't exchange the PSU!... Will be using ********** for all my further purchases

we would not be able to exchange the PSU as it is working as intended for the system

Annoyed is not the word!!!

What GPU was in the PC originally?

Did you offer to pay for the new PSU?

They are under no obligation to replace for free if it still works without the 3070 fitted.

Wonder if a bios update is need to support the 3070?

If you can fit the PSU yourself/or someone else, ask OCUK if it will affect the warranty.

Yeah, that's a fair point, but if the pc was originally running a different gpu without issue then I fully agree with ocuk that they are under no obligation to replace.

Good psu is the best investment you can make imo, get a 1200w from a good brand with long warranty, EVGA for example, and never have to think about psu again.

Shouldn't really matter, is a "1000W" PSU so still should be well within operational limits as long as OP installed the card correctly.

It isn't really a 1000w psu though. It's a very low quality psu that only has 840w on the all important 12v rail and I doubt if it would manage even that. There is a warning on the label not to exceed 850w total power as well which says a lot about the quality of this unit. People see the headline 1000w and pay no attention to what it is actually capable of. OCUK use Kolink psu's in their systems because they get them for next to nothing as their parent company are pushing these psu's. We have seen many problems on here with these psu's ranging from dead on arrival to blowing up after a couple of days use. They are garbage and I wouldn't let one anywhere near a pc that I built.

I agree that they are **** PSU's. Even if its barely managing 840W on the 12V rail (or significantly less than that!), It should be plenty enough for an RTX3070, which is a ~210W-240W part depending on the specific card.

If the PSU is cutting out because it cannot handle a 240W GPU then the PSU is faulty, and OCUK morally should do right by their customer and replace it. IMO there would be a strong case under CRA2015 as well should it come to that.

If it turned out that one of the slots on the motherboard was dead or otherwise not functional, would you accept the retailer telling you they won't replace it because that slot was not used in the original build, therefore it is working as intended for the original system spec? Utterly ridiculous IMO.

@Stephen Cross - go through and make absolutely sure everything is connected properly, its a modular PSU so check your connections at both ends / reseat them, make sure you're using the right outputs on the PSU etc, and the card is seated properly. If you have the means to, test the card in another system to just rule out the card being the issue.

Kolink is a hit and miss brand. Your PSU with the remaining warranty will probably sell for £50 on e bay. Buy something like CORSAIR HX1000 Modular ATX PSU - 1000 W for £160 to replace it.
