yep as long as the motherboard has the correct interface such as ide/sata

Of course, do a full format though. If your old HDD is IDE you may want to consider upgrading to SATAII though

The Cable is tiny, does this mean that it is a Sata II ?

Calm down, calm down!

Sounds like you have SATA of a form, whether it's SATA1 or 2 will depend on the actual components but it's of no real consequence as SATA2 is backwards compatible so a SATA1 drive will work with the SATA2 controller on a new board.
