Hey people,

getting ready to build a new pc in the comming months (still waiting to see what AMD does, how DDR3 takes off and also was nVidia comes with).. i just did a mock up of what the PC will be and...couldnt decide whether or not to go with water cooling or not. heres what ive got..cant remmeber the full names so bear with me

Intel Quad Core 6600 (2400MHz)
Asus P5W64-WS Pro Intel 975X motherboard
2 HDD's (x2 500GB) Seagate Barracuda
Nvidia GeForce 8800 ultra (may change depending on the market, i dont use uber hi resolution..so i dont think SLi would be beneficial for me)
1000w PSU
4GB DDR2 PC8500 Corsair Dominator TwinX

recommend any changes? would you recommend water cooling? The case I've bought for it has 4 fans..2 at the back, 1 on the side and a huge 250MM fan on the front.

still cant decide whether or not i can find enough reasons for quad-core for my system just yet.

I would change a few things thier. I can understand getting that motherboard for SLI but their are better alternatives, as in this board:

Though this board would be better overall, DDR2 and DDR3 Support and it also supports Intels upcoming Penryn Processors.

No SLI support but hey do you really need it?

Any particular reason to go for the Ultra? this one will be fine:

1000Watt Power Supply? Have a look at this one, superb PSU:

As for the Memory, as i said in a couple of other threads the Cellshock is very high quality RAM.

You dont need 1000watts. My new system will be similar and im using a 600watt psu. Im using Mushkin memory instead and will be watercooling, using a Gigabyte P35 DQ6 as well.

thanks for the replies guys. im pretty certain i dont need SLi now..but im still undecided whether or not to (excuse the pun) take the 'plunge' with water cooling or not. i read a review and some parts were quite leaky and built with poor quality.

For some reason..i had trouble understand the actual differences between the intel boards (normally amd and its been simple).. but all this 775 P35, 965p and 975x stuff confussed me a little as to which was more effective.

Finally..also mentioned an ultra as I do a lot of gaming and would like to run crysis at a near max quality level...not to mention play AoC aswell.

If you have the spare money, Water Cooling is a great idea. Im not the guy to talk to about going under water, as i dont know much about it. I do Air Cooling. :D

As for running Crysis, its better to wait for the game to actually come out, by then Nvidias new batch of cards will hopefully be out and get one of those. Still none the less i think your going to have a pretty hard time noticing the diffrence between a GTX and a Ultra, not worth the extra cash to be honest.
