Hi Oc
Ive had my pc for sometime its a old intel single core(2.4ghz), i updated parts as i went along, and the boards still agp i have nvidia 6200, 2gb ram ddr1. Its finding it hard to play some new games.

I want to build the pc to be capable of playing the game crysis (expected in november) on high

The specification is here

http://www.crysissector.com/info/systemrequirements.php

I dont need screen keyboard etc.. just the tower, i have look about the things and have got this together...

How have i done with the parts? if anyone could recommend any other bits i might need or any parts you would swap around, it would be great thanks!

o and i havnt over clocked before.. i was wondering if you would recommend starting?

I tried to get the parts within £1k

I'd drop the Raptor for something much larger. IMHO you won't notice a great deal of improvement from the Raptor's speed (unless you are really really trying hard to notice it) and you will run out of that 36GB in a heartbeat. Western Digital Caviar ***AAKS, Samsung Spinpoints and Seagate Barracudas are all good choices - make sure that you have 16MB cache at sizes >300GB and you'll get a much better deal out of any choice you make compared to the Raptor.

Also go with a lower speed RAM (stick with the Ballistix) to save on costs. If you are going to try some overclocking definitely choose the cheaper 5300 version of the Ballistix. You should also have some fun with that CPU.

Edit: While that PSU is fine, I'd go with the 520W Corsair. Plenty of power from that and quieter.

You could make the following changes:

WD Raptor 36gb -> WD Caviar SE16 500gb
Asus P5K SE -> Asus P5KC ddr2/ddr3 combo
OCZ StealthXStream 600w -> Corsair hx520w
Ballistix pc2-8500 -> Ballistix pc2-5300
OCUK 8800gtx -> BFG 8800gtx OC

And still come in under £950.

Have you got Windows Vista yet?

Budget left to buy Vista if you havent already, if you have then I'd get another 2GB RAM.

Also if you play at a res of 1680x1050 or under I'd look at this Deal , only £189 for a 8800 GTS 640MB is amazing price which would still handle Crysis maxed out settings and also allowing for 4GB RAM & a copy of Vista for under £1k.

i dont have windows vista yet, ive just got xp home from my old pc

also i have a 200gb ide drive that i forgot to mention which i was going to use, but maybe more storage would be a plus anyway.

would you suggest vista?

I'll probably be buying from now until september sometime the games expected november anyway, anyone think its worth waiting until mid september? (incase the new nvidia card pushes prices down)

thanks for your replys

Well you'll obviously get more for the same amount of money if you wait until September, but you also won't have a new computer in the mean time, so it's up to you ...

I would recommend buying Vista if you are buying a completely new system. Everything should have Vista drivers and the OS is nicer than XP in many ways from my own experiences.

Edit: check you have enough IDE ports on the motherboard you choose. You may need to get an IDE->SATA converter or a caddy if you want to make use of that IDE HD and use an IDE DVD drive at the same time.

why not wait till nearer when crysis comes out than buy now if your current pc runs all your current programs decently? you can probably get a higher spec pc at the time for the price, than what you can get now. anyway id reccomend to get vista rather than use xp, and to get a 500gb drive rather than get the raptor. truebluecfc's spec is good.

go for as much budget as u can mate lowest hdd possible and burn your stuff to dvd.

as for quad u could take a cheap dual overclock it and buy a quad by the time its properly used.

id go for tureblues list tho seems spot on for a crysis quality pc.

also personally i would wait for the 8900 GTX over the 8800 if i was you id wait until its launced and buy all the games then even if its just after xmas or jan.

an 8800 is nice but i still struggle in some games i really wish i had sli!

Thanks for the feedback, :cool: im going to take the advice on psu(hope its enough power for quad core and 8800), hd and get the lower ram speed to try some overclocking, going to stick with that cpu, the cpu cooler i will also get.
I thought the new graphics card was going to be called the g90 or something?

might go with NullVoid's BFG 8800gtx OC and Asus P5KC ddr2/ddr3 combo, (for ddr3 future proof?)

Whilst my pc does run some games i currently play at medium/low(read my spec on top post) im going to wait a little while, want it about september time anyway because il have not much to do(apart from work, some people are going on holiday), and i guess you can go on waiting forever if you always want to worry about new parts / lower prices.

I hope the 8800 doesnt struggle on crisis or anyother new games out? :confused:
Ive also got oblivion that i would like to see in full motion.

oh and is it posible to link up your pc to a samsung high def screen?
anyone know what would be needed?

Ive got a samsung hd ready le40r7(not mine :rolleyes: )

offtopic:
It took me a while to find an email address that would let me sign up to OcUK forums.

This is what i had spec'd up from last months advice:

This is what spec i have now (im ready to order):

Do you think this is better for money? and is that enough power 520w to over clock (will be my first time oc'in )
Any other help again will be appreciated.

thanks

Yeah i'l go for that cooler (Noctua NH-U12F CPU Cooler) and that board

If someone can confirm the cooler will fit in a antec 900 case?
otherwise il stick with the current cooler.

thanks for your replys
