I am finally getting round to replacing my old PC which is about ready for retirement :D. What are peoples thoughts on the spec below. I do a fair bit of video/audio encoding, video editing, image editing as well as the usual web surfing, office stuff. I play the odd game but its not going to be the PC's main use. Will most likely be putting XP on it for the time being.

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Energy Efficient 95W edition Socket 775 (2.40GHz) G0 Stepping
CPU Cooler - Coolermaster Hyper TX
Memory - Corsair 2Gb (2X1Gb) TwinX DDR2 XMS2 Dominator, PC8500
Motherboard - Asus P5KC Socket 775, Intel P35
HDD - Samsung 500GB HD501LJ Spinpoint T
CD/DVD Drive - Samsung 20x SATA Lightscribe DVDRW Dual Layer
Case - Antec P182
PSU - Corsair 620w HX series
Monitor - Samsung SM-226CW 22" Widescreen TFT
GPU - Sapphire HD3850 256MB DDR3

hey there, very nice spec! I think I'd get something pretty similar, but I'd probably downgrade to a 520w Corsair, and replace the pc8500 with some £32 pc6400 OCZ. Nice HDD choice, case choice and monitor choice, and I agree with going for the quad if you're doing video encoding and it looks like you're planning to overclock it.

Not sure about the 3850, i just read a benchmark of it and the 3870 on ***** here:

and it seems like it's not very cost effective, nowhere near as fast as the 8800 and only £40 less. Not sure it'd be able to handle the high resolutions of that monitor.

^ er am I not allowed to post a benchmark from that site? It's not really a competitor seeing as they don't sell anything (hint: rhymes with lexus).
