New PC spec

It has taken a year of saving but finally I can order my new PC over the weekend.

I don't need Windows, a mouse or a keyboard. I will also require a new screen prefer 27inch and one I can plug my sky hd and ps3 into when I want.

I have been looking at the Z68 motherboards so I want an SSD drive and use the Intel smart system tech. I currently have two of these and think it makes sense using them in the build which seems lucky seeing as what has happend with the prices - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=HD-082-SA

The PC is used for gaming, WOW currently and in December SWTOR I also enjoy games like GTA, Battlefield 3, Deus Ex etc

In terms of spend I have at least £1200 and upto £1350 at a push.

What inputs sky HD uses? HDMI? And the PS3, connected via HDMI as well?

Will be tricky to get a screen with two HDMI. Can always use a HDMI switch, or convert various digital connectors.

Depends. For SRT, you don't need a big SSD. However I'm using a 128GB for my system drive directly. I don't use SRT, makes things simpler. I get great boot times, fast loading on BF3 (on SSD), and great general system responsiveness, similar to my older rig with a Vertex 2E 60GB.

Gigabyte has boards with onboard SSD for SRT (called ...-iSSD), as well as 'easy' SRT tools, which you might consider.

Good case. The 600T has a built in fan controller, and it's a good all round case. The CM 690 II is a great case for the price. I suppose you could get a CM 690 II and get a fan controller as well, or just not bother. :) YOu can always add one later if you feel it would reduce case fan noise. Or replace fans with Gentle Typhoons and the likes.

IMO, a build around a 2500K-Z68, 8GB and a 6950 2GB would be a target. the PSU is strong enough for crossfire, you could get a modular unit as well for better cable management. Like the XFX Black 750W.

I think an SSD as a boot drive will be more useful and cost effective
 
Thanks from both of you, so hard when your spending over a grand to get the right thing.

Can anyone let me know what the main difference is at the moment between the ATI cards and the Nvidia cards, I suppose I am more interested in the FPS difference.

The liquid cooler looks interesting. Should I add any other fans to the build?
 
No you should be okay for fans.

Not a lot of difference with AMD/Nvidia... Personally preference and different games run differently, but neither is outright better
 
I'd hold it on the fan front, it's always something you can add later.

For GPUs, the price matches the performance in general, so you get what you paid for. The 580 being a leap in budget. Check out Battlefield 3 benches at 1080p. Although the main FPS killer in that game I found is the MSAA anti aliasing. IMO a 6950 2GB is a good compromise, and scales great with crossfire (I have two 6950 TOXIC). The 560ti is good price performance, it has lower Vram. 'Some say' no big deal, especially at 1080p.

If think of going SLI 570 later, you will need a stronger PSU. Lepa 850W will do the job, as well as some OCZ Z-850, XFX or corsairs 750W-850W. The 6950 requires less juice, so in general a 750W will do.
