Hi all,

I've just built myself a new computer and im having some small problems with Windows on it. :)

The spec is as follows:

  • AMD X2 6000+
  • Asus Crosshair
  • Corsair XMS CL4 2x1GB
  • BFG 8800 GTS OC2 640MB
  • WD Raptor 74
  • Windows XP Pro SP2

I installed windows on it last night and then installed the Motherboard drivers (chipset, audio, amd live!, silicon raid). Then I did the GFX drivers.

After installing the NVidia chipset drivers though on log on windows seems to hang for about 3 minutes. CPU Idle at 99% nothing taking up RAM, nothing seems to do anything except CTRL+ALT+DEL which obviously brings up the task manager.

Then all of a sudden it comes back to life.

Now while its hung I notice that it hasnt yet loaded the network. (i.e. i cant see the icons in the taskbar) and when it comes up they load and everything is fine again.

I havent yet tried uninstalling/reinstalling but I will try that first. I have also been told to uncheck all the services etc in msconfig.

Now My Questions:

Is there anything else that I could try if either of those fail to work?

Has anyone else had the same issue? if so what have you tried...

You dont say which OS. My guess is the Nvidia software is causing the issue. I would un-install the dirver package and re-install but dont use the media shild or the other networking software, drivers only and it might be OK. I had this problem with Vista and 15.08 Nvidia drivers, was OK if it did the above.

Hope this helps

I have edited it above. I will try that tonight thanks for the heads up.

On a side note though how is Vista on this motherboard? I noticed it came with a driver disk for Vista but I have to purchase the OS.
