Setting up new box. When I power up I just get a really loud high pitched noise for about 5 seconds or so, then it stops for a second and starts again.

I really don't have a clue :(

Spec:

Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler
Scythe S-FLEX 1200RPM Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan
Samsung SH-S183ABEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA ReWriter
Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient 95W Edition" 2.40GHz
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

High-pitched whine usually indicates the gfx low volting, as Kalps says, check your power connects.

Is the noise coming from your case speaker? Or the motherboard speaker?

If it's 3 long beeps, each with a second-ish space between them...That indicates faulty ram theoretically on most motherboards.

As the others have said, make sure all power connections are in first. The 4 pin cpu connector by the processor, the 24-pin connector, and of course power to the graphics card :)

Hard to tell.

I'd say the noise lasts about 5 seconds and really is loud, then stops for a second or two then does the same again.

GFX card has two PCI-E power connectors plugged in. Main motherboard power connecter is plugged in. CPU power connector is plugged in.

:\

I have Dual Channel memory in Dimm 1 and Dimm 3

If its this board: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-135-AB&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=

There is an 8-pin connector next to the cpu, rather than a 4-pin...Did the motherboard come with a 4-pin TO 8-pin adapter? If so I'd try that, we had some ASUS boards come into work the other day like this.

**EDIT**

The manual does state only a 4-pin connector is required, however the 8-pin is recommended. I say try that if you have the converter cable available, or an 8-pin cable directly from the psu.

I wasn't under the impression RAM made massive noises like i'm descriving when faulty.

I'll try the suggestions when I get home. This is why I hate building PCs :(

If it's broke out of the box i'm going to be ******* raging.

Well it wont be the RAM that's actually beeping, it'll be the case speaker attached to the motherboard, or the speaker actually on the motherboard :)

I know that I meant I didn't think ram errors cause beeps like i'm describing.

At work now so I can't sort it, then i'm off to the gym and the girlfriend is coming up.

Grrrr.

Yep, RAM makes error beeps as well :)

When your cpu overheats at DOS level it also makes system beeps...sounds like a fire engine

But yeah, try the above when you can, and re-post so we know what's going on.

It's one loud quite high pitched beep that lasts a good few seconds, then there's a pause for a few seconds before it does the same again.. and again...

I hope nothing is broke :@

I'm sure you have done the following but just in case have you tried the following;

- Reseat everything from scratch
- Check if you havn taken some plaster off from the CPU? (highly unlikely but happend to me once :X)
- Try powering with bare minimum (CPU, Single Ram, GFX) without hdd/dvd-rom/mouse/keyboard etc.

Nah it's still not working. Checked all the power connectors, tried with 1 stick of ram...

It's a long loud single beep for 5 seconds or so, then it stops and fans etc stop spinning.
