Hey all

I'm after a complete new system. It's for games so I want a bit of power. I also like the sound of the new intel duo but I don't know if its worth paying the extra for the 4mb cache models. I've looked around at some hardware review sites and they seem to say there is about a 10% improvement in power. Going of this it doesn't really sound worth it. So my next question is the 6300 or the 6400? This is what I've put together so far. Keep in mind i want power but I need to save £'s.

What do you think? Thanks a bunch in advanced!

will u be overclocking?

that psu will not be enuff power for that rig...

if overclocking the gigabyte ds3 is the board for u

what res u gaming at?

No real plans for overclocking... If I decided to tweek it a little could I still use stock cpu cooler?
So the PSU won't be enough for this system or won't be enough if I plan to overclock? If not whats a good case/PSU for cheap and doesn't make a lot of noise. The PC is going to be in my room and id like it to be quite. no flashing neons or turbo fans etc.

A friend told me the asus can overclock quite well and it has a lot of cool features.. what you recon?

Thanks again

Also what do you guys think about the Intel Duo 2.mb cache vs 4 mb cache. is the performance improvement really worth the cost?

Stoc CPU is not recommended mate. I would prefer u go for aftermarket coolers. Scythie Ninja/infinity is a good start.

re: 4mb vs 2mb - I just found this article which answered my question.

But if i want to overclock what do I need to do? How far can I go with stock cpu fan?

Cheers
the DS3 has better overclocking reports than the other motherboards for core duo, I've managed to get my DS3/E6300 with Geil ultra low Latency setup to 3.15GHz (1.86GHz stock) with little extra volts. thats also using the scythe ninja cooler as well, they're well fast!

Is the much difference between the DS3 and DS4?

Damn VeNT those overclocking stats are amazing!! So if I go with one of the gigabyte's and that cpu fan I could overclock to those kinds of speeds? What are the side affects? is it doing damage to the system? more noise as fans are working harder?

Cheers

I believe the DS4 can go to a higher FSB speeds than the DS3 so I suspect it to be an excellent board for overclocking.

The only side effect of overclocking is more heat. The harder you push your CPU the higher the temps. If you have a very good fan, such as the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro or the more expensive Scythe Ninja then you wont have to worry much about noise from the cooler, as these tend to be very quiet even at full speed.

My system is cooled with the AMD version of the Freezer 7 Pro [Freezer 64 Pro] and is running at pretty much 100% speed and I can't hear it over my case fans. I suspect the Ninja is much quieter.

You wont be damaging your system either, and this is something a lot of people are concerned about. It should be noted that there is a very high probability that the CPU will be unstable LONG before you put enough juice through it to kill it.
