Hey,

I've been looking at building a new PC and I've spent hours looking at components. Now I'm off this week I'm really wanting to buy the components and then build it :)! So my current system is alright but it can't record and run games at the same time which is the reason for the upgrade! I must admit after reading a lot of guides on here I actually changed my plan from a 4820k to a 4790k. The main uses of the PC will be; Gaming, Video Editing, and other general stuff. Anyhow here's what I've come up with!

Well, with help from Tohrazers guide (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18610674/) I've managed to get it down to this;

Case: NZXT Phantom 410 (Looking for a case less than 54 cm tall)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK
Processor: Intel i7 4790k (Devils Canyon)
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro 100i
Power Supply: SuperFlower Leadex Gold 850w
BluRay Drive: OCuk Value (Need this for the library of movies I'm making, but cheapest I figured was best)
GPU: MSI Radeon R9 290x 4096mb
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 4gb 1600mhz (Current system has 3 sticks so to pair up the final one I'll add the 4th (Have some old sticks to replace them with in the old system))
SSD: Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD

Things coming from my current PC:

x1 1TB Hard Drive, 1x 4TB Hard Drive
x3 Corsair Vengeance 4gb 1600mhz
x1 BlackMagic Intensity Pro

That's my initial build I don't think I've missed to much off, especially thanks to that guide! However my thoughts are though if I have missed anything or whether anything should be changed. This build comes to £1269 which is just over what I was going to spend (£1200) but I don't mind it being a little over.

Now the sound card I am very vague about and I don't know much about but my current on board sound card is terrible and people I've spoken to have always said get a sound card, reading reviews on here this one seemed pretty good (But I wasn't sure what I was looking for!).

It's my first actual build so I do wonder if I'll need anything else with regards to this, wires etc. in order to get it built as well.

Any advice on this build would be absolutely awesome!

Cheers,

Hey,

Thanks for the suggestion & welcome :). I must admit I instantly looked at the 290x thinking that the price point would match performance vs the 290. Reading about a little bit as I didn't check the 290 vs 290x it seems you're definitely right there £80 difference for a minuscule gain! That's a nice bit of money saved!

Cheers!

Hehe I had seen that bundle and that was in the price, although didn't realise it ended tomorrow! Do you know what time it ends at all? As I want to just make sure the sound card is what I'm after, or whether I'm paying to much or go for something a little dearer etc. Before buying everything!

Cheers :)

Morning All,

Cheers for the help with this! I think you're all right with the sound card thing, I must have carried on reading for another 2/3 hours on the subject and it may just be my old motherboard isn't giving me the best where as the more modern motherboard now is producing excellent sound!

Doomedspeed, curious question with the motherboard change do you know how different the sound would be with the Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z97 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard vs Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard.

Thanks for the graphics card tip :)!

The case issue is the NZXT Phantom 410 not that good? It does fit the specs with some clearance but with both of you picking different cases it has me slightly worried! It's just that it comes in cheaper and I'd rather not spend more on a case than is needed :)! (Plus the design looks pretty good :D)

O I also noticed the power supply, I thought 850w might be overkill but for future proofing is it worth staying at the 850w or going down to the 750w as suggested :)?

Cheers for all your help so far, it's been awesome!

Cheers for all your help with this, it's been awesome!

I think I'm going with;

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£35 Saving** £356.98
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 290 PCS+ OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £275.99
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW) £109.99
1 x SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 850W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £99.95
1 x Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060009-WW) £88.00
1 x NZXT Phantom 410 Enthusiast Midi Tower Case - Black £84.95
1 x Pioneer BDR-209EBK 16x BDRW Multilayer 128GB retail £53.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3-PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Single Channel Module (CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9) £41.99
Total : £1,128.32 (includes shipping : £13.75).

Motherboard & Processor: I figured the bundle would save more money!
GPU: Switched the graphics card as looking at it, it's the best choice from what you've said :D!
PSU: Kept the 850w just as a safety net really!
CASE: I don't mind plastic, my current case is plastic & metal which is the reason for the 410!
BluRay: Figured from doomed post it actually makes sense to not cheap out over £10 really!

Thanks for your help with this!

Hey All,

Order went through fine and has been packaged up so I must have got the last NZXT Phantom 410 case in Black! Will certainly post pictures up once it's done :)! Looking forward to my first full complete build :D! Only ever modded my current one!

Hey All :)

Thought I'd give a little update really, I spent a few days working on the PC, building it up slowly as it was also my mums birthday that weekend so was out abit! It's nice to really get an understanding of the PC I've found while building it, I've learnt a huge amount from the build so much so, I'm cleaning my old computer completely out and hopefully building some form of media centre for the house :D! I also even learnt a lot about cable management as I focused on that once I knew it could power on :D!

The computer seems to be working perfectly, less than 10 seconds to boot up and on restart about 0.5 seconds (I've never seen anything like it!) All parts I think are running fine? I need to double check the GPU though as on occasions (3 times out of 50 youtube videos +) I got a quick black screen before going back to normal but only happened on a specific time on those videos, so will test that with a game or something! Not played any games yet as I need to setup a few things first but hopefully there's nothing wrong with the GPU!

So I'll put some pictures up once my racing rig is set back up and you can see for yourself :)!

Cheers for all the help with this though it's been awesome!

Download CPU-Z and post some screeshots of the various tabs.

Will upload the tabs once I get home! I did load the program up last night and continued to do my normal thing to see what it shows and my whole computer crashed on 1 video at a certain point. I restarted watched the same video without it on and I got a black screen (Only for a moment) in the exact same place it crashed so I'm slightly worried! Although after some googling it seems that much longer harder crashes on this GPU have happened to others, I'm assuming if I load a game up it will do the longer harder crash on a black screen!

But will upload the tabs later? On a side note is the software meant to automatically go to the R290 rather than the onboard graphics card as I have to keep changing it in the menu?

Hey All,

Here's the information;

CPU-Z Tabs;

My GPU Driver;

Once the GPU is sorted as it seems to be doing it a little bit more now, I'll be reverting back to a windows 7 look as I really do hate the look of windows 8.1 (Love the performance though)! Any help with the black screen would be awesome.

Pictures soon of the setup to :D!

Well your RAM is running at 1333MHz (666x2).

So try enabling XMP profile in the advanced memory section.

Also update the boards BIOS by downloading the latest from Gigabyte, extracting the file and placing on a USB stick and then within the BIOS click on Qflash and update from the drive.

You may want to do this as when the CPIU is underload the Vcore CPU-Z reports maybe a lot higher than it actually needs.

TO see what Vcore the board is feeding your CPU, keep CPU-Z open on the frequency section that shows the Vcore and try running Cinebench R15 or something along side and see what the Vcore value jumps upto.

O wow, how did I not notice that! I'll do as instructed and let you know how I get on after work tomorrow!

Cheers for the help!

Hey,

Quick question I've never done a QFlash and reading up on it, it does seem very risky. Is it worth while doing in this case with the ram not performing?

Cheers,

Definitely stable it's only crashed the once during a video, but other than that it hasn't. Do I go straight to the latest version of do I have to do it version by version? I'm currently on F3 and F6 is the latest.

Cheers,

Hey Stulid,

Cheers for all your help so far, it's been mega! Q Flash worked successfully, I assume the motherboard was reading temperature a bit high as the instant I re-checked it after the Flash it had dropped 10C!

With regards to Vcore;

Before Cinebench R15 - CPU run

During Cinebench R15 - CPU run

Is that looking a bit better do you think?

Cheers,

Well you've helped stulid, so I'm very appreciative, motherboard and vcore are something I'm very new to!

Just done a little CPU test as I was worried about cooling, everything seems great from this :D!

So will finish setting up my racing area and post pictures :D! (Not sure whether this would be better in the project area now?)
