Hi guys,
I have bought a new 1TB pci 4 nvme ssd for my system as was running out of space. I currently use a 1TB pci 3 nvme ssd as my boot drive and another 500 GB sata ssd in the rig as well. Both of my m.2 slots on the motherboard support pci 4. My question is this: should I clone the existing pci 3 system drive onto the new pci 4 drive and use the pci 4 drive as the system drive? Obviously the pci 4 drive has quicker read and write speeds but am I really going to notice much difference in boot speed? I only use the computer for gaming and do not write or read any huge files. I am aware the pci 4 drive is overkill for gaming anyway but I got a good deal on it for not much more than a pci 3 drive so thought it was worth getting for future proofing. If I'm not going to notice any real difference in boot speed then I'll just add the pci 4 drive in and get cracking. Thoughts? Probably making this over complicated but any help greatly appreciated!
edit - the slot I am putting the new pcie 4 drive in is the slot just below the cpu and above the graphics card, the existing pcie 3 drive is in the slot at the bottom of the motherboard. Is the top slot best used for the system drive? I have read that this slot connects directly to the cpu and the bottom slot connects via the chipset. Thanks again for any help.
