New PCS+290 Arrived today plus some benchmarks

I didn't get much done tonight, in fact, I ran one bench test and went out.. Have been out in a good couple weeks due to this new pc, it's killed my social life! But I want to see how I can compare to them scores of Moey!

No worries savage enjoy that Fresh air :D Moeys score was really good, will have a go tommorow as well to see if i can match it. His settings would be a good barometer for you as well.

Hey moey and welcome :) You got a bargain at the price you
paid for your lightning! Would have picked up one myself for that price. Impressed with that heaven score, what settings was that at?

So far i have not had a problem pushing the core on the pcs, i just need more voltage. 1180 seems to be the sweet spot on mine for daily use, the custom fan setup in msi afterburner has helped as well. Fan speed stays at at 30% until the card reaches 42 degress then starts to ramp up as temperatures rise.

At 1150mhz core, 1650 mem and +93mV core +50 power limit

Indeed. I look forward to it.

As the warmer weather comes I'm scared my now expensive pc will not get the use it deserves :( I knew there was a reason I wanted a budget build... It sucks being a nerd at heart some times

So college finished early today so i though't i'd come back and do my overclock.

The highest i managed to get was 1160/1650, anything after this i was getting some pretty interesting things coming up on the screen and higher than 1180 i was getting some black screens.

Core:1160 +95
Memory:1650 + 5
Score: 1616
FPS:64.2

I also found that Afterburner goes up to +200, not trixx for me! But i'm going to go further than this, anything 100+ seems like it should be there.

Got to say you win savage, am tapping out :D Theres no more to give really even at +130 i got a worse score than my previous. Cant complain at the price i paid though. The lightnings reputation is intact. That 2fps diffrance was just to much gap to close with the pcs 290

Seems like our Lightning LE's clock very similarly

The lightning is a 290x though compared to the 290 PCS so it was always likely to come out on top regardless

Yeah very true, they must really overclock though those lightnings with more volts :D

Quite pleased with the results in the end, for 199 quid cant go wrong really. Shame the lightnings were not on offer, would have loved one of those :D

Haha, I've seen some other benches on mine so i may crank it right up and see what i can get :D If things get too hot or not working then I wont bother haha.

Indeed. Have you managed to get it past the 1200 core mark with over +100?

With decent water cooling you can go WAY over what MSI AB lets you set the sliders too.

This was for the thief benchmark thread. Oddly enough, i was being held back by my CPU and its clock! People with similar clocks on 290x with 2011 socket CPUs seem to be benching higher even on mantle!

Here is a link to the guide if you want to go over +100mv i would be surprised if the lightning couldn't handle +200mv for a bench or at least +150mv for 24/7. How hot are you guys getting on your lightnings? Previous lightning coolers could handle as much as some AIO set ups and ive seen previous lightnings eat up +200mv no probs. Maybe some extra case airflow could make it cool enough to run higher than +100mv for you guys.

My screenshots above were on a reference card with an EK block and before i dropped voltage down to +231, i had it at +275mv without issue when i was playing with higher clocks.

Yeah i'm piecing together my water cooling loop at the moment.

I get max of 75 on the clocks i've posted above. I dont have the greatest case for airflow and i've got a mix match of crap fans, so i'm going to get new fans and a shiny new WC loop :D

I'm new to Overclocking so i'm airing on the side of caution as i don't want to ruin my new card.

But them scores are seriously impressive man!

Thanks but with a decent loop, i think you can do pretty much what you want with these cards, so im gonna put it down to tools over skills. I dont know what the LE throttles at but if you change the fan curve you can get a lot more out of it. I found anything u to 85 was fine in terms of stability, ofc the cooler the better though. On water i would be surprised if my card ever went above 60 even on silly clocks. some people ran these cards fine in the low 90's, so i think these chips can take quite the beating.

I am gonna have a go with the new drivers, as there is definitely gains to be had. When i posted that benchmark i think it was in the top 3 but obviously a lot less people were posting in the thread.

Really? I can't wait to get mine underwater and see what it can really do, CPU and GPU. On a bench i usually just set the fan to like 85%. Yeah, it's a fantastic card, i cannot fault it at all.

231 mv??

jesus....Im too scared to go over 80 :o

Nice numbers tho

Haha, i got scared at 100.
