New phone, no sim - what message app can i use?

Morning all,

I am getting a phone for my young daughter for xmas - although there will be no sim until next year for her (she wants it for music, vids, apps etc).

But i would like her to be able to instant message - is there an app i can use for this?

Normally I'd say Whatsapp but it does ask you to verify the phones number so maybe that won't work just over WiFi!?!?

Hmmm, a quick Google here says it's possible!

you can install whatsapp without a phone, i put it on my mums tablet for her, but cant remember now how ..

it will be on google

i would prefer whatsapp as that is what we all use, but i thought it required a sim!

just stick a free sim in to set whatsapp with its number and then remove the sim
