New phone time.

I'm guessing it wouldnt be possible to move my number between my old and new contracts? ;)

They wouldn't let me, but it's a good time to get rid of all the people who you don't want to talk to anymore ;)

You could try indirectly.
Old contract -> PAYG -> new contract. Not sure if this would work though.

you can get a very similar looking and dimensioned one which is like a hybrid between this and the wifi enabled one, has the slower processor, the double ram and windows mobile 5 (this is 2003SE) on tmobile called the mda compact II, but this wifi card at least isnt compatible with WM5. Apparantly drivers are being written for it but i dont know.

Maybe it's just because it's what i'm used to but i do slightly prefer even the proper phone version of windows mobile over symbian, but I suppose that'd down to preference.

I was offered all the latest mainstream phones (K750i, W800i etc) all for free today but refused them all as I want the M500!

I quite fancy doing what Tomsk said above, getting a free w800i, selling that as new, and buying a new M500 and using that. What is orange's take on this? Legal? What's my official stand if I have any problems? Do I register the fact that I've changed handsets?

Ok you guys have convinced me with the Qtek S100 although the Qtek 9100 looks excellent. I do text quite a bit, and being without a keyboard scares me :p. If anyone can offer more assurance that i won't miss it and i'll be able to text (fast and easily) with the m500 (Qtek S100) then i'll go for that. I text silly fast, and i can't see using a stylus being that fast whether it be handwriting recognition (because i type faster than i write, well readable anyway!), nor an on screen keyboard because thats like typing one letter at a time whereas i use two thumbs at once to type with my current candy-bar phone. Although the built in wi-fi looks good, if only it wasn't so thick/heavy :(.

Decisions, i'm probably going to buy one next month when i get paid, hopefully i will have made my mind up by then.

leperousdust you can happily use the onscreen phone pad with your thumbs if you so wish :) i do sometimes altho i tend to use the back of my index finger instead though. It's a BIT slower than conventional buttons but not enough to cause any concern for me.

Now that I think about it, the phone will actually be the property of Orange and therefore you can't sell it. It's probably buried somewhere in the T&C's. Selling the upgrade phone never really crossed my mind when I got my upgrade as I always intended to use my (Orange) PAYG in it.

Hmmm yeh, after another attempt at getting the phone (and again, being refused) they now say the latest W800i etc are £150!

Definately going for a new contract now!

If you can afford £320 in one go, it might be better to just buy a QTek S100. When you add up the cost of the phone and monthly rental for a year the best deals that Orange do work out at £305 (Your plan 120, £12.50/month for 6 months + £25/month for 6 months + £80 for the phone).

Yeh but the £320 in one go would get me just the phone (and a not so nice looking one at that) and I dont go over my £25 a month anyway (1000 texts and 120 mins) so it works out cheaper going through orange.

I've cancelled my existing contract today (30 days notice) and will get a new contract soon - with the M500 :D

i think o2 have this phone (m500), but slightly smaller and with built in wifi. not sure if its out right now, i've not seen it in an o2 shop, but the reviews sound awesome!!!

I've just been into Vodafone and looked in the business catalogue and they do a VPA compact which looks exactly the same as the M500, is it?

The manufacturer is HTC and they list it as the HTC Magician
It's rebadged as:
Imate JAM
Qtek S100
Orange SPV M500
O2 XDA Mini
T-Mobile MDA Compact
VPA Compact

There is also a version with 128MB RAM. AFAIK only Qtek give it a different name - S110.

I have an MDA Compact (same phone) and use Co-Pilot Sat Nav on it.
Great phone. I also have a SanDisk WiFi SD card with 256MB of built in memory on it.
My wife has an MDA compact as well.
I also have the XDA exec (big phone!) and tend to use the MDA compact more, in fact I don't use the exec much but just like having one.
