Hi All,

I just received the following pre-built overclocked system today http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-252-OK&groupid=43&catid=1444&subcat= but I think I've got a major problem with the CPU temperature :(

I downloaded RealTemp and tested the core temps on the i5 760 and at idle they are ranging from between 60 and 70c. Upon increasing the load the cores are jumping straight to 95-99c !!! Now I've been out of the PC game for a while now but am I right in thinking there is something seriously wrong here!? I assume I should not be getting these sort of temperatures?

Do you think it will be a case of getting the system sent back to check out the problem? I don't think there could be anything easy that I could do myself to sort this.

Really not happy :(

i have similar components.

Whats the core voltage at idle and core voltage under load. (use CPU-Z for voltages)

Yeah that's way too hot. OCUK say that their pre-clocked systems are tested and stable, so return it. It's a hassle, but if you try fixing it yourself and **** something up, you'll be stuck and unable to return.

Ok downloaded CPU-Z and the core voltage is 1.376V(doesn't seem to change from idle to full load so maybe i'm looking in the wrong place?)

Yeah that's what I thought, just my luck wait what feels like ages to get the system and then have to send it straight back......

Thanks chaps.

Maybe try talking to someone at OCUK first. Find out what voltage that rig was supposed to be set at. It's possible whoever built it set the fsb and multiplier and forgot to lower the voltage, and then assumed it would run OK as it's a tested platform.

Or just lower the voltage yourself and see what results you get.

Hmmm seems way high,

I have an Asus P7P55D-E LX + i5 760

plus a cooler that is priced around the same as yours.

im doing 20 x 200 (4GHz) on 1.275V but I have FAAAAAAAAAIL Vdrop when I run prime or IBT it goes down to 1.176V but it's still stable lol.

But those voltages you have are either craaazy high, or I have some lucky silicone :P.

Oh btw don't mess with the BIOS settings as it voids your warranty just contact OcUK in the morning.

Could just be a simple case of cpu cooler has become dislodged during shipping,

Have you checked the cpu fans are spinning and installed the right way.

Ok rub it in why don't you ;) All pre-built overclocked by OCUK so they must have assumed the voltage to be ok. Make's me wonder if it was tested correctly before it was dispatched?

Don't worry I'm not going to touch anything until I speak to someone especially as I'm a complete noob at this OC malarky. Sent a webnote earlier this evening so hopefully I'll get a response tomorrow at some point other wise I'll just call.

Well I'm no expert, the last system I built was around 10 years back but it all looks okay to me. The Cooler seems to be seated correctly and the fans are spinning okay and I think the airflow is going in the correct direction. I think you're right though and something has happened to it in transit as I'm sure OCUK would not have knowingly shipped the system in this condition!?

Anyone had any experience on how quick the turn around is for the system to be sent back, checked (and hopefully fixed!) and sent back?

Got a response from tech support and I've been told to try and re-fit the CPU cooler myself. As this is a pre-built system should I really have to do this?

I know it would be hassle to get the system picked back up and sent back etc but I'm worried I could damage something while doing this and invalidate my warranty in some way.

Should I push for OC to fix the issue or attempt it myself?

Actually upon further investigation there has been a sticky pad in the shape of the bracket applied to back of the bracket with the paper on top to stop it sticking to anything!!!

Could this have anythng to do with the insane temperatures I'm getting? Here is a pic:

If I need to get this off it's going to be a bugger as it's stuck solid!

Well I think I can now understand what has been done. The back plate has been mounted the wrong way round!!! The sticky pad should be touching the motherboard holding the plate in place while the heatsink is attached the other side.

Probably the reason for a bad contact with the CPU and high temps if not fitted correctly! I'm not going to touch this and the system is going straight back for repair/replacement!!!

I don't understand how they could have mounted it the wrong way, surely they are ment to be experts at buliding these PCs, as they do it all the time for a selected range of components and then overclocking and testing them....obviously they aren't and getting cheap child labour in Thailand to build them instead ;)

Shame on u OCUK

I worked at a computer shop once
we supplied the MoD with about £60,000 of custom built PCs
employed a 16 year old to build them
when the delivery trucks arrived all the components had fallen out inside the cases
after that they used a glue gun
welcome to planet earth

That's amazing! I imagine that Costa 'trained monkeys' advert is a bit like what goes on in some assembly warehouses.

With picture evidence to hand, you could easily just refit the backplate and cooler yourself. Shouldn't be a problem, but if it still doesn't cool properly, send it back. I don't think they could call you up on voiding your warranty trying to repair THEIR shoddy work.
