**HELP NEEDED*** New Prebuild from OCuk

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help.

I have a couple of issues with my system, I recently purchased the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-213-OE&groupid=43&catid=2040&subcat= battlefield war rush i5 2500k pre build with an ASUS GTX570 and 8gb 1600mhz ram, which I had installed in a BitFenix Shenobi case.

Now, the first and foremost issue is the fact that i'm getting in-game crashes whilst using the latest Nvidia drivers on WOW and BF3. It happens more often in WOW & what happens is that the screen goes black and then I get a message along the lines of 'NVIDIA DISPLAY HAS STOPPED WORKING AND HAS RECOVERED'.

I've tried several things from google searches to resolve this including:

*Nvidia control panel, set to single display performance mode
*Disabling the HD audio
*Changing power settings in nvidia control panel to performance instead of adaptive
*Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers

So, then I decided to download and run PRIME 95 to test the overclock stablity of the CPU and RAM.

Using the default settings I ran a burn test and saw the REALTEMP core temps reach 98 on each core pretty quickly which prompted me to shut the program and system down to prevent damage.

The system is overclocked to only 4.4 ghz, and i'm sure OCUK are supposed to stress test this system prior to shipping so surely the CPU shouldnt get that hot that quick?

The mobo is a GIGABYTE Z68AP-D3

The CPU cooler I believe is a Xigmatek Red Scorpion CPU Cooler, which comes as part of their overclocked pre build.

I upgraded the PSU to 750w ocz zs.

Please help?!?

Even downclocked to 4.0ghz in TouchBios i'm getting these temps...

**EDIT: Likewise with default 3.3ghz***

Is there something I need to change in TouchBios to sort these temps out? System Idle's between 30-40!

How can I increase the case fan speed manually? They seem to be very slow..

Temps aren't acceptable at all esp for 3.3GHz. Perhaps the cooler has come loose or isn't fitted correctly. Did you install the cooler? How much termal paste did you use?

I would wait until tomorrow and ring them up. They'll more than likely advise you to reseat the CPU cooler which will help.

How many case fans are you running with? What speed it the CPU fan spinning at?

In terms of the NVIDIA drivers, try installing older archived WHQL drivers rather than the latest BETA and see if it helps.

I will open the case up and take a quick look to see if it's come loose. It was pre installed by OCuk.

The bitfenix shenobi comes with 1 intake at front and 1 out take fan at rear.

Here is a screenshot with some info on my setup, I assume speedfan shows the fan speed you are looking for?

I will also try an older NVIDIA driver, thanks.

Ok so I took the side panel off and the Xigmatek Red Scorpion CPU Cooler is on there nice and tight.

So what now?

Could the voltage be too high?

I would go back to OCUK rather than fiddle around with it. If it's new it should have a guarantee.

This means returning it over the Christmas period where it will take ages to get it back, and I was really looking forward to playing some games with the time off that I have. I'm REALLY annoyed right now.

I'm thinking lowering the voltage would help? Maybe they set it too high?

Please look at the settings screenshots guys, maybe they overlooked something?

Returning this is really a last resort.

I did notice that fan 1 (CPU FAN?) on speedfan doesnt go above 1500 when temp is above 90 and the case fans dont increase above 1125 (their default speeds)

Sounds like a fan/cooling issue to me, is there a way to increase the speed of them manually??

Make sure the OC profile is saved in the BIOS so you can recover it. If you lose this not sure OCUK will be happy.

Then try loading optimized default settings to return everything to stock inc. voltages etc. If temps are still too high, explain this to OcUK and they'll probably recommend reseating the cooler. If the cooler was attached before shipping then it's probably become dislodged or something. I would hate to ship a PC with a heavy cooler attached.

Ok so I reseated the cooler with Artic 5 thermal paste, did a good job and STILL prime 95 brings the temps to 100 degree's with the 4.4ghz overclock.

Games dont stress the CPU that much so for gaming I wont know any difference?

I dont want to return this, I want to fix it.

What now?

Just reset bois settings (saved ocuk profile) and Prime95 is hitting a lower 71 degrees now.

However i've noted TouchBios reports a 10 degree lower temp both on the overclock and the standard 3.3ghz setting, it's not gone above 60c on Touch Bios.

Which is more accurate?

Think I've found what it is.

One of the mounting screws for the heatsink doesnt screw in properly, although it does fit pretty tight. The screw is loose and unable to secure like the other 3.

Would this be the reason why temps are so high?

Could really use some help here, i'm getting VERY stressed. Just done a PRIME 95 test and it went over 100 straight away!

I think it got damaged in transit..

If one of the screws are not tight, it means the heatsink won't be making full contact with the cpu properly as one corner will be lifted slightly up.

Call OcUK as soon as they open tomorrow morning.

...seems pointless to send a whole system back to just change the heatsink?!?

Tempted to buy a new heatsink if you guys are confident thats the issue? I'm not upto returning this im not off work until after xmas and I move home on the 23rd! Stress is an understatement.

I've spent all weekend installing/updating my new pc and am not happy at all about this.

Unlikely before christmas though :(

Its ages till xmas, contact them, ship back 1-2 days to fix at most and itll be shipped back next day, easy before christmas.

You wont lose anything on your hardrive and it's likely it only needs screwing back in..

Like I say I'm working every day up to xmas so there is no time for me to be available to send back or accept delivery

Buying a new Heatsink is far more desirable for me, but I need to be sure that will solve the problem - it couldnt be anything else could it?

Seems silly to go through the hassle of returning it just for a screw/heatsink..

Pulling my hair out here
