I'm currently running a P5N32-E with an E6700 overclocked at 3.0GHz. Was thinking of getting an E8600 as a little upgrade. Does anyone else have the same board as I know it's compatible with these newer chips, but i'm a bit cautious.

Anyone

I used to have P5N32-E SLI (if that your board) 680i chipset, the worse performance I ever had. Its worser than my AB9 QuadGT (Intel P965 chipset). So I think you should flog that board get an Intel chipset board.

Yeah I checked the web already. Just wanted to know if anyone here was using the same setup and how it was running and stuff.

Can't you clock your E6700 any further? I would have thought it would hit 3.6Ghz at least. If you can clock it further then you would'nt "need" a new cpu.

Yeah could do... but my little brother is after an upgrade, so thought I would give him my old E6700 and save him some $$$. Plus I think even with the new E8600 running at stock speeds it would peform quite a bit better than my E6700 running at 3.6GHz.

On par I would imagine. Nothing stopping you running the E8600 at 4Ghz though ;)

Ok, got my E8600 fitted in last night, all detected and booted up ok. However, can anyone tell me roughly what the stock idle temps should be? My idle temps were 35/32 using a Freezer 7 Pro, does this sound ok?

Also another thing to note was that even though Speedstep was disabled in the bios it would appear that it's still working... as when I'm watching temps I can see the frequency and multiplier going up and down according to work load.

Is there anything else under the CPU section of the bios that should be disabled in order for Speedstep to be properly disabled?

Temps are the same as the one I installed the other day.

I turned off speedstep, but as you said, in CPUZ it was still doing it.

I wouldnt bother diasbling it, as it speeds up to full speed in milliseconds anyway. You are not going to notice it. Plus it saves a bit of heat and power.

There is also an option to turn off C1E.

But as rodders mentioned, I would leave both on as you won't notice any difference and it saves power.;)

Cheers for the imput guys.

So are those stock idle temps ok using my cooler? I thought they would have been a bit lower personally, but just wanted to check before I start overclocking.
